Reel Keeper review
A dragon circles above the reels in this Red Tiger slot, released on 18 June 2020 according to the studio. Its job is to drop full-reel wilds, and the interesting part is what those wilds do next: in the base game they walk one reel to the left with each spin until they leave the screen, while in the free spins they stop and lock once they hit the left edge or another locked wild.
A small grid with walking wilds
Reel Keeper uses 5 reels of 3 rows and 10 win lines. Red Tiger lists stakes from €0.10 to €50.00 and a hit frequency of 16.99%, so about one spin in six returns something.
The Dragon Wild is a 1x3 super symbol, exactly one reel tall, that the dragon may add to the reels. A reel covered by it replaces all paying symbols on that reel. On each following spin the wild may move one position to the left, and it keeps doing so until it slides off the grid. A single dragon drop can therefore help across several spins in a row.
Dragon Spins
Dragon Eggs on reels 1, 3 and 5 award 10 free spins. The walking rule changes inside this round: a Dragon Wild that reaches the leftmost reel, or runs into another wild that is already locked, locks in place.
Locked wilds build up from the left. If enough of them arrive, they can stack until all five reels are wild. The rules point to that build-up as the route to the largest results, which explains why the bonus matters far more than the base game here.
Dragon Wilds
Full-reel 1x3 wilds dropped by the dragon. In normal play they move one reel to the left per spin before leaving the screen; in Dragon Spins they lock at the left edge or against another locked wild.
Return, risk and the cap
The game has one RTP, 95.72%, for a house edge of 4.28%. Across $1,000 of play the long-term cost is about $42.80. Over a hundred spins the average is $0.86 at $0.20, $4.28 at $1 and $21.40 at $5.
Volatility is High. The max win is 6,073x the stake, which the studio rounds to over 6,000x: $1,214.60 at $0.20, $6,073 at $1 and $30,365 at $5. With a low hit rate and a bonus that pays most when wilds stack across the reels, long quiet spells are part of the design.
Power Reels and other options
Reel Keeper Power Reels lists a 95.73% RTP, the same High rating and a far higher 16,060x cap. Among similar Red Tiger slots, Legend of Athena sits at 95.75% with 6,549x, Happy Apples at 95.7% with 6,186x and Well of Wishes at 95.76% with 5,499x, all High. No free demo of Reel Keeper is on record.
Pros
- Dragon Wilds cover a full reel and can help over several spins
- Free spins lock wilds and can fill all five reels
- 6,073x max win
Cons
- 95.72% RTP, about $42.80 per $1,000 wagered
- High volatility with a 16.99% hit frequency
- No free demo on record
Verdict
Reel Keeper builds everything around one symbol: a full-reel Dragon Wild that walks left in the base game and locks in Dragon Spins, where wilds can stack across all five reels. The idea is clear and the 6,073x cap gives the bonus a high ceiling, but the 95.72% RTP means a 4.28% house edge and volatility is High. Expect long gaps between results and set the budget around the 4.28% house edge.
