Shadow Society review
Most slots keep one grid for the whole session. Shadow Society does not. Red Tiger's secret-society game from 2022 begins as a small 3x3 board and enlarges it, one reel or one row at a time, as Progress Symbols fill a bar. The same bar unlocks high-paying character symbols along the way, and the free spins add a multiplier that climbs as wins are paid. It is rated Medium, with 95.76% RTP and a 1,957x ceiling.
Climbing the ranks of the cabal
The game starts with three reels and three rows. As you keep spinning, 2-row-tall Progress Symbols can land anywhere on the reels, and each one fills the Progress Bar. After every fifth Progress Symbol the bar pays out one reward, up to a maximum of 8.
The rewards come in a fixed order, so the ladder is easy to follow. The first, third, fifth and seventh unlock a high-paying character symbol in purple, green, red and golden. The second and sixth add a reel, and the fourth and eighth add a row. Played to the end, the board has grown from 3x3 to 5x5.
Progress Symbols and the Progress Bar
Every fifth Progress Symbol that lands earns one reward from the ladder, which has eight steps. Because the symbols can land anywhere, progress is not tied to a win. Progress Symbols can also appear during the free spins and continue filling the bar there.
Expanding win lines
Each time the area grows, the number of win lines grows with it. A 3x3 board has 9 win lines, a 4x4 board has 16 and a 5x5 board has 25. The studio says the playing area expands on every second reward, by one reel and one row in turn.
Free spins with a rising multiplier
The bonus scatters land on the leftmost, middle and rightmost reels, whatever size the board has reached. Three of them award 10 free spins. Three more landing during the round add 5 spins to the counter.
The multiplier starts at 1x and increases gradually to 15x after every win line payout in the round. That is a ramp, not a random value, so the order of wins matters: a long run of paying lines pushes the multiplier toward 15x, and an early dry stretch leaves it low.
Maths and session costs
Shadow Society has one RTP on record, 95.76%. The house edge is 4.24%, which means about $42.40 lost per $1,000 wagered. The hit frequency is 30.7%. Stakes run from €0.10 to €50.00 according to the studio.
For shorter sessions, 100 spins at $0.20 cost about $0.85, 100 spins at $1 cost $4.24 and 100 spins at $5 cost $21.20. The max win of 1,957x the bet is $391.40 at $0.20, $1,957 at $1 and $9,785 at $5.
Close relatives in the numbers
Bulls Run Wild is the nearest match at 95.75% and 1,947x. Bombuster lists 95.74% and 2,020x, Regal Beasts 95.73% and 2,078x, and Here Kitty Kitty 95.73% and 2,135x. Fa Fa Babies from 2022 sits at 95.83% and 1,999x, while Agent Royale shows 95.77% and 1,760x.
All are rated Medium, so the choice between them is a matter of mechanics.
Pros
- The grid grows from 3x3 to 5x5 as the Progress Bar fills
- The free spins multiplier climbs from 1x to 15x with each win line payout
- Four character symbols are unlocked along the way
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Every reward needs five Progress Symbols, so reaching the 5x5 board takes a long run of spins
- A 4.24% house edge costs $42.40 per $1,000 wagered
Verdict
Shadow Society is a game about progression: the board, the symbol set and the paylines all change as the bar fills, and the bonus pays a multiplier that rises toward 15x. The 95.76% RTP and Medium rating are ordinary for the group, so the draw is the structure, not the numbers. With a 4.24% house edge it remains paid entertainment. The free demo is a fair way to see how quickly the board expands.
