Dynamite Riches Megaways review

Red Tiger set this 2021 Megaways slot underground, among gold and gems. What sets it apart is a progress bar above the reels. Dynamite wilds fill it, and every 15 of them unlock another feature that can then fire at random. There are 60 dynamites in all, so the game slowly changes as the bar fills. The numbers are modest on RTP, at 95.75%, but the catalogue max win of 8,185x is well above the 2019 original.

The unlock bar

Dynamite wilds substitute for all paying symbols, and each one that lands adds to the Feature Unlock Progress bar. The bar has four sections, one for each unlockable feature. When a section is full, its feature is unlocked and the next section starts to fill.

Unlocking changes how the game behaves in two ways. The feature can then be triggered at random on a spin at the same stake, and the rules say it is always triggered on the spin straight after it unlocks. Once all 60 dynamites have been collected, no more of them appear.

The features, one by one

The first three unlock in order, at 15, 30 and 45 dynamites. The text we hold stops before the fourth, though it refers to a bonus round called Gold Spins.

TNT

Unlocked at 15 dynamites. When it fires, all low-paying symbols are removed for that spin, leaving a board that favours the higher symbols. If Gold Spins are entered after the TNT, the low-paying symbols are not removed for the duration of the bonus.

Golden Wilds

Unlocked at 30 dynamites. When triggered, up to ten Golden Wild symbols can land on the middle four reels.

Multiplier compass

Unlocked at 45 dynamites. A compass appears and spins to reveal a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x for the next win. If it triggers again before a winning spin, the revealed values are stacked, up to x20. In Gold Spins the compass acts differently, and the text we have is cut off before explaining how.

Maths and max win

The catalogue lists a 95.75% RTP, so the house edge is 4.25%. That costs about $42.50 per $1,000 wagered. A hundred spins cost $0.85 on average at $0.20, $4.25 at $1 and $21.25 at $5.

Volatility is High, the hit frequency is 23.59% and the max win is 8,185x the bet. In money that is $1,637 at a $0.20 bet, $8,185 at $1 and $40,925 at $5. Red Tiger sets stakes between 0.10 and 50.00 euros. No free demo is listed for this game.

Compared with the 2019 original and its neighbours

The first Dynamite Riches, from 2019, shows 95.7% and a 5,341x max win, also with High volatility. The Megaways edition has a slightly higher RTP and a larger top prize.

Other Megaways titles sit at nearly the same RTP but with far higher ceilings: Wolf Stacks Megaways lists 95.72% and 30,538x, Primate King Megaways 95.7% and 30,000x, and Gods of Troy Megaways 95.71% and 43,200x. Doggy Riches Megaways (3,494x) and Gems Inferno Megaways (2,553x) are lower.

Pros

  • The unlock bar gives a clear sense of progress through 60 dynamites
  • Compass multipliers of 2x to 10x can stack up to x20
  • Max win of 8,185x, or $40,925 at a $5 bet
  • Hit frequency of 23.59%

Cons

  • 95.75% RTP means a 4.25% house edge
  • Our source text does not cover the fourth feature or the Gold Spins rules
  • No free demo is listed

Verdict

Dynamite Riches Megaways is a rare slot where the rules change as you play, because the bar of 60 dynamites unlocks TNT, Golden Wilds, the multiplier compass and a fourth feature. It is rated High volatility at 95.75% RTP, which leaves a 4.25% house edge. Several Megaways titles list far larger max wins at a similar RTP, so treat this as a mid-range option and set a session budget first.
