D - Day review

D - Day is Nolimit City's take on the Second World War beach landings, built on a diamond-shaped reel set with rows of 3, 4, 5, 4 and 3. That layout gives 720 ways to win before any feature fires. The game's personality comes from five military modifiers, each of which turns ordinary symbols into wilds or enlarges them, and from three free spin tiers in which you choose which of those modifiers come along.

A diamond of 720 ways

The reels are of uneven height: three positions on the outer reels, four on reels 2 and 4, five in the centre. Wins pay as ways from left to right, so matching symbols on adjacent reels count wherever they sit in each column. The published hit frequency is 21.73%, a little over one spin in five.

Two scatters in the base game can set off a modifier on the spot, and a scatter on reel 5 is tied to the Atomic Wild. Three or more scatters lead to free spins, covered below. Three special symbol types, Anti-Air, Foot Soldier and Commando, act as blockers or exceptions for some of the modifiers.

The five modifiers

Each modifier has a clear job, and most of them create wilds. When several fire on the same spin, the Atomic Wild always resolves first.

Atomic Wild

Picks a random position and turns it into a wild with a multiplier of 10x, 20x, 30x, 50x or 100x. If the chosen spot is already a wild, the rules note an extra increase on top. It is the only modifier that brings a large multiplier by itself.

Bomber

Two to five bombers appear, one per reel. Each converts paying symbols on its reel into wilds from the top down, stopping above an Anti-Air symbol. A wild that is already there gains 1 to its multiplier.

Stuka

Flies along a diagonal, left to right or right to left, and splits the paying symbols it passes so they count double. Up to 7 can appear, one per diagonal, which can multiply the number of ways sharply.

Panzer and Howitzer

Two to five panzers, one per row, turn low-paying symbols in their row into wilds, except the Foot Soldier, and add 1 to existing wild multipliers. The Howitzer turns between one and 7 paying symbols into wilds, skipping Commando symbols and existing wilds.

Free spins: you pick the arsenal

According to the game page, three scatters start Neptune Spins, where you reveal two of the five modifiers to be active. Four scatters start Invasion Spins with three picks. Five scatters start Overlord Spins, in which the Atomic Wild is always included and you choose three of the remaining four.

The number of spins per tier is not stated in our source. What changes between tiers is clear, though: more modifiers active at once means more wilds per spin and more chances for multipliers from the Atomic Wild, Bomber and Panzer to stack on the same positions.

xBet and the buy menu

Boosted xBet raises the stake by 30%, so each spin costs 1.3 times the base bet, and in return free spins become twice as likely to trigger. It does not apply inside bonus modes.

The bonus buy menu lists Neptune Spins at 70x the bet, Lucky Draw at 235x, Invasion Spins at 250x and Overlord Spins at 1,000x. The rules also cite an overall range of 68x to 2,310x for buy prices, which suggests the exact figure can vary by setup. Our source does not say what Lucky Draw contains.

Return, volatility and the cap

D - Day has one RTP on record, 96.12%, a house edge of 3.88%. That is about $38.80 kept per $1,000 wagered in the long run. Over 100 spins the average cost is $0.78 at $0.20, $3.88 at $1 and $19.40 at $5.

Our catalogue rates the volatility Very high; the text on the game page calls it Extreme. Either way, short sessions will often land well away from those averages. The top prize, called Mission Accomplished, is 55,555x the bet: $11,111 at $0.20 and $55,555 at $1.

For comparison, Infectious 5 xWays shares the 55,555x cap at 96.02%, Land Of The Free lists 96.08% with 57,000x, and Disturbed sits at 96.1% with 54,391x, all rated Very high.

Pros

  • 720 base ways on a diamond grid, with five different wild-making modifiers
  • Free spin tiers let you choose which modifiers are active
  • Atomic Wild multipliers from 10x to 100x
  • Published hit frequency of 21.73%

Cons

  • Very high volatility, called Extreme on the game page
  • Overlord Spins cost 1,000x the bet to buy
  • Many interacting rules and blocker symbols to learn

Verdict

D - Day turns a 720-way diamond grid into a battlefield of modifiers that create, split and multiply wilds, and its free spins let you pick which ones join the fight. The RTP is 96.12% and the volatility is Very high, or Extreme in the game page's own words. The 55,555x cap is a rare outcome. With a 3.88% house edge, it is paid entertainment for a firm budget.
