Wolf Gold review
Wolf Gold splits its action between two bonus features that work on completely different principles. Free spins merge the three middle reels into one giant symbol, while the Money Respin is a hold-and-respin round where only cash-valued symbols count and a full screen of 15 adds a 1,000x Mega Jackpot. Pragmatic Play released it in 2017 as a left-to-right payline game, and both features can feed into each other.
Base game basics
Wins are paid on paylines from left to right. The grid has 15 positions, and the wild appears only on reels 1, 3 and 5, where it substitutes for all symbols except the scatter and the money symbol.
The money symbol is the second key piece. It can land on any reel, and each one carries either a random cash value from a predefined set or the value of the Mini or Major jackpot. A single money symbol does nothing on its own; it matters when six or more appear together.
The two features
Each feature has its own trigger, and the official rules describe both in detail.
Free Spins
Three scatters award 5 free spins. During the round, reels 2, 3 and 4 spin together as one giant symbol, and special reels are in play. Each time three scatters land again, 3 more spins are added, with no limit on retriggers. A giant symbol covering the middle of the grid can connect many lines at once.
Money Respin
Six or more money symbols start the feature after line wins are paid. Regular symbols fade, the special reels hold only money symbols and empty spaces, and you begin with 3 respins. Every new money symbol stays and resets the count to 3. When respins run out, all visible values are paid.
Jackpots and the full screen
Three jackpots are in play during the Money Respin: the Mini and Major, which can appear as money symbol values, and the Mega Jackpot, awarded only for covering all 15 positions. Pragmatic Play sets the Mega Jackpot at 1,000x the bet and says the cash values on money symbols reach up to 100x.
The Money Respin can also be triggered during free spins. That link matters: a free spins round is not only about the giant symbol, because six money symbols landing in it can open a respin round as well.
The respin round also has a natural tension built into its rules. Every money symbol that lands buys three more chances, so a slow start can recover, but once three respins in a row add nothing, the round is over. The value comes from how many positions are covered and what each symbol carries, not from lines.
Return and cost
Our catalogue lists Wolf Gold at 96.01%, and the official rules round this to 96.0%. The house edge is 3.99%, about $39.90 per $1,000 wagered on average. One hundred spins cost around $0.80 at $0.20, $3.99 at $1 and $19.95 at $5.
No volatility rating, overall max win or hit frequency is published in our data. The 1,000x Mega Jackpot is the largest single fixed prize the rules name, but it is not stated as the game's overall cap.
Newer versions and 2018 neighbours
Wolf Gold Ultimate from 2024 lists 96.5%, and Wolf Gold 4 Pack from 2025 lists 96.51%, both a clear step above the original's return. Comparable Pragmatic Play games from 2018 include Great Rhino at 96.53% with a 900x cap and Mustang Gold, also at 96.53%, with a 12,000x ceiling.
Who it suits
Wolf Gold suits players who like features they can follow: a respin counter that resets, a visible board filling up, and free spins whose retriggers have no ceiling. The lower RTP is the main reason for caution, and the newer versions are worth comparing. The free demo makes it easy to see both features before committing a budget.
Pros
- Two distinct features: giant-symbol free spins and a Money Respin
- Unlimited free spin retriggers, 3 spins at a time
- Full screen of money symbols adds a 1,000x Mega Jackpot
- Free official demo available
Cons
- No volatility rating or overall max win published
- Newer versions in the series list a higher RTP
Verdict
Wolf Gold is built around two clear features: free spins with a giant middle symbol and unlimited retriggers, and a Money Respin where resets to 3 keep a full-screen 1,000x Mega Jackpot in view. The mechanics are easy to read. The return is modest, with a 96.01% RTP and a 3.99% house edge, and no published volatility. Try it in demo mode and keep the budget fixed.
