Zombie Carnival review

Zombie Carnival puts a circus tent on the screen and takes out everyone alive. Pragmatic Play released it in 2022 as a payline slot with a brain symbol for the scatter, and it asks for fewer scatters than usual to start the bonus: two are enough. The pack for this game is thin and parts of the rules text are fragmented, so this review sticks to what is clear and says where it is not.

Layout and how it pays

The studio describes a four-by-six set-up. Our catalogue does not carry a grid size, so that comes from the studio page alone. Wins are paid on paylines from the leftmost reel across adjacent reels, only the highest win is paid per line, and wins on several lines are added together. The rules list no tumbles, respins or expanding reels.

The studio mentions a possible win of 5,000x the stake. Our catalogue lists no max win for this game, so treat that figure as the studio's statement and not a catalogue fact.

Free spins from two scatters

Landing two or more scatters in the base game starts the free spins round, and the round begins with 6 free spins. Special reels are in play during the feature, which means the bonus is not just the base game with extra turns. Landing a scatter during the round awards more free spins once the win of the current spin has been paid.

Parts of the rules text are cut up by the page layout. They suggest that some symbols turn into wilds that stay on the screen until the feature ends, but we cannot confirm which symbols or how many, so we leave out the details.

Buying the round

The free spins can be bought from the base game for 80x the current total bet. When the round is bought, two, three or four scatters land at random on the spin that opens it. That gives a bought round a range of starting conditions, but the pack does not say what each scatter count changes.

RTP, costs and what is missing

Only one RTP is on record, 96.5%, which is a house edge of 3.5%. On average that is $35 lost per $1,000 wagered. A 100-spin session at $0.20 costs about $0.70, at $1 about $3.50, and at $5 (a total of $500 wagered) about $17.50. Volatility is not published.

At the 80x bonus-buy price, one purchase at a $1 bet is $80 spent on a single feature before any win, which is worth keeping in mind when setting a budget.

Other 2022 releases at 96.5%

Gold Party lists 96.5% with a 5,163x cap, Happy Hooves 96.5% and 5,000x, John Hunter and the Book of Tut Respin 96.5% and 4,000x, and Release the Kraken 2 96.5% and 5,000x. Octobeer Fortunes sits slightly higher at 96.53%, and Bomb Bonanza slightly lower at 96.46% with a 2,015x cap. All were released in 2022.

Pros

  • Free spins start from just two scatters
  • Special reels are used during the free spins round
  • Bonus can be bought for 80x the bet
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • No volatility label or max win in our catalogue
  • Rules text is partly garbled, so some bonus details are unclear
  • The bonus buy costs 80x the bet

Verdict

Zombie Carnival is a payline slot with a simple, readable base game and a free spins round that opens from two scatters. The RTP is 96.5%, a 3.5% house edge, while volatility and max win are not published in our catalogue. The studio mentions 5,000x. It is a reasonable pick if you want a low-barrier bonus trigger, but treat it as paid entertainment and try the demo first.
