Shield of Sparta review
Shield of Sparta draws on Ancient Greek architecture, with warriors, helms, swords, ships and chariots across a 5x3 grid and 20 paylines. Pragmatic Play, which released it in 2022, gives it two scenes: a rugged coastline in the base game and a battle in the bonus round. What sets it apart, in the studio's own words, is a pair of bonus symbols, one of them magnetic, that decide both the respins and the free spins.
The grid and the symbol set
Wins pay on 20 lines from left to right, with a bet multiplier of 20 applied to the stake. The symbol list in the rules is 18 long, and it includes 8 regular symbols, a wild, a scatter and a Magnetic Scatter. The extract of the list is cut off after that, so we do not describe the rest.
The studio names the visual symbols as warriors, helms, swords, ships and chariots.
Locking symbols and respins
Bonus and Magnetic Bonus symbols can land on all reels. When two of either kind appear, they lock in place and the remaining symbols go through another respin. The aim of the respin is to bring in a third matching symbol, because three or more of the two types together start the free spins.
The pack does not state how many respins the game gives, or whether the locked symbols reset. What it does show is that a near miss, with two symbols on the grid, still has a function.
Bonus symbols
