Rise of Olympus 100 review
Rise of Olympus 100 returns to the three brothers who divided the realms of Olympus: Hades, Poseidon and Zeus. Play'n GO released it in 2022 as the successor to the 2018 original, and the 100 in the name points at the new ceilings. The free spins can run to 100 and the multiplier is capped at 100. A charge meter hands you a choice of god, each with a different effect on the grid.
A sequel that picks up the story
According to the studio, the plot continues where the first game ended. The three sibling gods split the realms between them after the age of tyranny under Cronus, and the studio's tagline says you decide how the story ends. On the reels, the studio says play largely resembles the predecessor, with the changes concentrated in the bonus.
Free spins and the number 100
Three Scatter symbols start the Free Spins. This is where the title applies: Play'n GO describes up to 100 potential free spins and a multiplier cap of 100 during the round. Those are ceilings, not typical outcomes, and the studio gives no figures for how often anything close to them occurs.
Because the multiplier can climb that high, most of the long-run value of the game is likely to sit in the bonus. That is an inference from the cap, not a stated split of the RTP.
Hand of God and Clear the Grid
Filling the charge meter launches the Hand of God feature. You then choose between the three brothers, and the reward depends on the god's power.
Hades
Transforms random symbols into the same symbol, which can complete paylines. The change is aimed at matching symbols across a line.
Poseidon
Adds one or two Wilds to random locations on the grid. Compared with the other two gods, this one changes the board by addition only: nothing is taken away.
Zeus
Removes two low-paying symbols and replaces them with Wilds or high-paying symbols. The effect is a better mix on the board, since weak symbols give way to stronger ones.
Clear the Grid
A separate prize that raises the game's feature multiplier by x50 and also pays instant rewards. The studio does not say how the grid is cleared, so we cannot describe the condition.
Return, versions and cost
The headline RTP is 96.2%, a house edge of 3.8%. Four lower versions are on record: 94.2%, 91.2%, 87.2% and 84.2%, whose house edges run from 5.8% up to 15.8%. At the top version $1,000 wagered loses $38 on average, and at the lowest $158.
In 100-spin sessions the averages are $0.76 to $3.16 at a $0.20 bet, $3.80 to $15.80 at $1 and $19 to $79 at $5 (a $500 total stake). Volatility is Very high, which means results spread widely around those averages. No max win is published.
The original and the alternatives
The catalogue lists one earlier game in the series: Rise of Olympus from 2018, at 96.5% RTP and High volatility. The sequel has the slightly lower headline RTP of 96.2% but a higher volatility label.
Games with matching numbers include *NSYNC Pop, 15 Crystal Roses: A Tale of Love, Cat Wilde and the Lost Chapter, Forge of Gems, Leprechaun's Vault and Mega Don. All are 2022 releases at 96.2% and Very high.
Pros
- Hand of God gives a choice of three gods with different effects
- Free spins and the multiplier are both capped at 100, which leaves a lot of room
- Headline RTP of 96.2% with a 3.8% house edge
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Very high volatility means long dry runs are normal
- Lower RTP versions exist, down to 84.2%
- Max win is not published and Clear the Grid conditions are not explained
Verdict
Rise of Olympus 100 keeps the older game's Greek setting and builds a bonus around caps of 100: up to 100 free spins and a x100 multiplier, plus a god-picking meter. With a headline RTP of 96.2% and Very high volatility, it is a game where a session can end far from the average cost of $3.80 per $100 wagered.
