Mystery Reels Megaways review
Most slots keep their symbols where they land. Here, one symbol multiplies. Red Tiger's Mystery symbol clones itself across the reels, then every copy flips over together to reveal a paying symbol. Put that on a six-reel Megaways layout with up to 117,649 ways and add a free spins round that lets you gamble the spin count, and you have a feature-led game. The RTP is 98.06%.
Ways to win on six reels
The reel set changes on every spin. Up to seven symbols can land on each of the six reels, and the number of symbols that actually appear decides how many ways to win that spin offers. The ceiling, with seven on every reel, is 117,649 ways.
There are no fixed lines to follow. A spin with tall reels offers far more routes to a win than one with short reels, so the same bet buys a different number of chances from one spin to the next.
The Mystery symbol
This is the headline mechanic. When a Mystery symbol lands, it clones itself a random number of times and spreads across the reels. It can appear once or more on any spin. After the cloning is finished, all the copies flip at the same moment and reveal one paying symbol.
Cloning Mystery symbol
Spreads from its landing position to a random number of other positions on the reels. Once every clone is placed, the whole set turns over together and reveals a paying symbol. Because the clones can travel across the reels, a single reveal can touch many positions at once.
Free spins and the wheel
Three free spins scatters on a spin or a respin unlock 8 bonus spins. You then choose: take the 8 spins, or gamble them on the Free Spins Wheel for a bigger number.
The wheel has up to three spins of its own. The first can award up to 20 free spins, the second up to 30 and the third and last up to 40. The studio states the floor too: the lowest total you can end up with by gambling the original 8 is 4. So the gamble can halve the round as well as multiply it, which makes it a real decision rather than a free upgrade.
RTP, volatility and cost
Mystery Reels Megaways has one RTP on record, 98.06%. The house edge is 1.94%, or about $19.40 lost per $1,000 wagered on average. The catalogue gives a hit frequency of 39.13% and a Very high volatility label.
Average cost for 100 spins: $0.39 at a $0.20 bet, $1.94 at $1 and $9.70 at $5 (a $500 total). The max win is 10,346x the bet, which comes to $2,069.20 at a $0.20 bet, $10,346 at $1 and $51,730 at $5. Those top figures are limits, not expectations.
Original game and similar Megaways titles
The non-Megaways Mystery Reels from 2017 is listed at 96.24% RTP, Medium volatility and a 4,991x max win. The Megaways version raises the RTP and more than doubles the top prize, while moving to Very high volatility.
Among games with similar numbers, Well of Wilds Megaways shows 97.71% with a 10,497x max win, and Blood Suckers Megaways shows 97.66% with 20,521x. Dragon's Fire Megaways, Piggy Riches Megaways and Golden Leprechaun Megaways sit between 95.71% and 95.72% with maximums from 10,470x to 10,479x.
Pros
- 98.06% RTP leaves a 1.94% house edge
- Mystery symbol clones can fill many positions in one reveal
- Up to 117,649 ways to win
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Very high volatility, so the average cost per session hides wide swings
- The free spins gamble can end below the base 8 spins
- Top prize of 10,346x is below Blood Suckers Megaways at 20,521x
Verdict
Mystery Reels Megaways combines a distinctive cloning symbol with a free spins wheel that puts a decision in the player's hands. Its 98.06% RTP is the high point, and the 10,346x max win and Very high volatility describe a game built around peaks. Remember that a 1.94% house edge still means a cost on every wager, and use the free demo to see how the Mystery reveals pace themselves.
