Mystery Reels review

A single symbol that copies itself drives Mystery Reels, a Red Tiger fruit game from June 2017. When the Mystery Symbol lands, it shows a number, clones itself that many times across the reels, and then every copy flips to the same paying symbol or to a Wheel Bonus. The wheel above the reels turns those bonus symbols into stake multipliers. Volatility is Medium and the top payout is 4,991x.

Clone, spread, flip

The game uses a 5x3 grid with 20 lines and a fruit theme. Everything interesting happens through the Mystery Symbol.

Its sequence has three steps. A random number appears on the symbol. The symbol then places that many clones, moving up, down, left or right across the reels. Finally, all the clones flip at the same moment to reveal one symbol from the paytable, which can be any paying symbol or the Wheel Bonus award.

Mystery Symbol

Displays a random number that sets how many times it clones itself. Clones spread up, down, left or right, then flip together to reveal one paying symbol or the Wheel Bonus.

Wheel Bonus

Each Wheel Bonus symbol revealed gives one spin of a stake multiplier wheel above the reels. Spins can award a direct multiplier, extra spins, or a boost to the multipliers for later spins.

How the wheel adds up

More Wheel Bonus symbols mean more spins of the wheel, and Red Tiger says that more spins raise the chance of reaching the bigger prizes, since some outcomes boost the multipliers for later spins. A flip that reveals several Wheel Bonus symbols at once is therefore the main source of large results.

Exact wheel values and their odds are not part of our source, so the size of a typical wheel prize cannot be stated.

Hit rate, return and cost

Red Tiger lists a hit frequency of 9.53%, which means fewer than one spin in ten returns a win. That is low, and it fits a design where most of the value depends on the Mystery Symbol appearing. Volatility is rated Medium.

The RTP is 96.24%, a 3.76% house edge, or $37.60 retained per $1,000 wagered on average.

The maximum payout is 4,991x the bet: $998.20 at $0.20, $4,991 at $1 and $24,955 at $5. Bets run from €0.10 to €50. A hundred $1 spins average $3.76 in cost; a hundred $5 spins average $18.80.

The Mystery Reels line

Three variants exist. Mystery Reels Deluxe lists 95.66% with Medium volatility and 23,084x; Mystery Reels Power Reels 95.67%, Medium, 5,250x; Mystery Reels Megaways 98.06%, Very high, 10,346x.

Golden Lotus (96.22%, 4,111x) and Mayan Gods (96.11%, 6,013x) are close matches by RTP and volatility.

Pros

  • Distinctive clone-and-flip Mystery Symbol
  • Wheel Bonus can award, extend or boost multipliers
  • RTP of 96.24%, a 3.76% house edge
  • Medium volatility

Cons

  • Low published hit frequency of 9.53%
  • Wheel values are not documented in our source
  • No free demo on this page

Verdict

Mystery Reels is built on one memorable trick: a symbol that clones itself and flips into a paying symbol or a Wheel Bonus that awards stake multipliers. The RTP is 96.24% and volatility is Medium, but a 9.53% hit frequency means many spins return nothing. The 4,991x ceiling is rare. Set a budget that allows for long gaps between wins.
