Muertos Multiplier Megaways review

Muertos Multiplier Megaways is Pragmatic Play's Day of the Dead entry in the Megaways line, released in 2022. Tacos, cactuses and skulls pay across six reels of changing height, and each win tumbles away to make room for more. The name points to the real subject: a multiplier that climbs during a sequence. That climb is where the 10,000x cap on the bet comes from, so the review starts there.

How the multiplier climbs

In the base game, a wild carries a random x2 or x3. That value counts for the tumble in which it lands and for every tumble after it, and it is kept in a meter. A second wild in the same sequence multiplies the stored value instead of adding to it. When the sequence ends, the meter goes back to x1.

In the free spins the studio describes a different, slower ladder. Each tumble raises the overall multiplier by 1x, and each wild that lands multiplies the current value. Steady tumbling builds the base, and wilds then scale it. That combination is what the studio credits for the maximum win.

Wild multiplier

The wild appears only on the top row and replaces every symbol except the bonus symbols. It carries x2 or x3 when it hits. During one tumble chain the stored total is multiplied by each new wild, so wilds that arrive late in a long chain act on a value that has already grown.

Six reels, changing heights

Reels 1 and 6 can hold up to 7 symbols. Reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 can hold up to 6, with an extra symbol on a top row that spins independently from right to left. At full height this gives 117,649 ways, and wins are formed by matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left.

Every win triggers a tumble. Winning symbols disappear, the rest fall, new symbols enter from above at the same size as the opening result, and the chain stops at the first tumble with no win. Wins reach the balance after the chain ends.

Free spins and the buy option

Three or more bonus symbols start the free spins, and the number of spins is picked at random before the round. Six symbols draw from 8, 10, 12 or 14. Four symbols draw from a list that begins at 6. Three symbols draw from a list that begins at 5 and runs up to 14. The studio also mentions that the spins you win can be gambled before entering the bonus; the pack gives no odds for that gamble.

Buy Free Spins

The bonus can be bought at 100x the current total bet, with 3, 4, 5 or 6 bonus symbols landing at random. At a $0.20 bet that is $20, and at a $5 bet it is $500.

What a session costs

The listed RTP of 96.03% matches the figure in the official rules and leaves a house edge of 3.97%. Per $1,000 wagered, the average loss is $39.70. A 100-spin session costs $0.79 at a $0.20 bet, $3.97 at $1 and $19.85 at $5.

The maximum win is capped at 10,000x the bet, which equals $2,000 at $0.20, $10,000 at $1 and $50,000 at $5. The studio does not publish a volatility label for this game, so there is nothing official to say about swing size beyond the cap.

Siblings with near-identical numbers

Mammoth Gold Megaways (2023) lists the same 96.03% and the same 10,000x. Pompeii Megareels Megaways (2024) is at 96% with 10,000x, and Barnyard Megahays Megaways (2024) is at 96.5% with 10,000x. Extra Juicy Megaways from 2022 has a 96.42% RTP and a High rating, with a lower 5,000x cap. Ancient Island Megaways (2025) is at 96.55%, and 5 Lions Megaways 2 (2025) is at 96.5% with 8,000x.

Pros

  • Two multiplier systems: a wild meter in tumble chains and a tumble-based ladder in the free spins
  • 117,649 ways with tumbling wins
  • The official 10,000x cap is clear in the rules
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • The free spin count is drawn at random, from 5 up to 14
  • No volatility label is published
  • The bonus costs 100x the bet to buy

Verdict

Muertos Multiplier Megaways is built around multipliers that compound inside tumble chains. Its 96.03% RTP means a 3.97% house edge, and there is no published volatility, so the demo is the sensible way to see how streaky it is. The 10,000x cap is a ceiling rather than a typical outcome, and the average loss is about $39.70 per $1,000.
