Merge Up 2 review
BGaming describes Merge Up 2 as a match-3 style cluster slot with a pastel look. Clusters do not simply vanish: part of them is promoted to the next symbol level, and the top levels turn into bombs that blast a block of the grid. The 2025 sequel adds cell multipliers, bombs in the base game and three Buy Bonus options. The listed RTP is a round 97%, volatility is Very high, and the max win appears only in studio copy.
Merging instead of clearing
A cluster is four or more of the same symbol next to each other. After the win is paid, some of the cluster's symbols disappear and the others change into symbols of the next level. The game has nine main symbol levels, with the scatter counted as level ten. How much a win pays depends on the level of the merging symbols and how many there are.
The studio puts a symbol progression outline above the reels, so the path from one level to the next is always visible.
Cell multipliers and bombs
Cells where a winning cluster formed are marked for the rest of the spin. A later win in a marked cell receives an x2 multiplier, and that multiplier rises by x2 with every new win. When several marked cells sit in one cluster their multipliers add up. The highest a single cell can reach is x128.
The bomb ties the system together. A winning cluster made of eighth-level symbols creates one bomb. It explodes, and the eight symbols around it disappear, the gaps are refilled and the bomb turns into a scatter. The studio adds that the explosion raises the cell multipliers of the cleared cells by one.
Cell Multipliers
A win in a marked cell gets x2, and the multiplier grows by x2 with each new win. Several multipliers in one cluster add together, up to x128 per cell. Cells stay marked until the spin ends.
Bomb symbol
Created by a cluster of level-eight symbols. It removes the eight symbols around it, then becomes a scatter, so merging is how scatters are made.
Free spins and the Buy Bonus options
Three or more scatters in one spin give up to 30 free spins, with cell multipliers in play. The studio offers three Buy Bonus options. The ones it describes start the bonus with an x2 boost or with three to nine bombs already placed. The prices appear on the buttons.
Maths and the missing ceiling
One RTP is on record, 97%, a house edge of 3%. Over a long run that is $30 lost per $1,000 wagered. A 100-spin session costs $0.60 on average at $0.20, $3 at $1 and $15 at $5.
Our catalogue lists no max win. BGaming's page mentions big wins of up to x10,000, which we pass on as the studio's claim. Very high volatility means a short session can end far from the average. A free official demo is available.
The original and nearby games
The original Merge Up from 2023 lists a 97.25% RTP and Very high volatility, so the sequel's return is slightly lower. Alice WonderLuck, Doomsday Saloon and Fiesta Clusters from 2025 all list 97%, and Sakura Riches 60 lists 97.16%. From 2024, Aztec Clusters and Lucky Dragon MultiDice X also list 97%. All are Very high.
Pros
- Cell multipliers climb to x128 and combine inside a cluster
- Up to 30 free spins, plus three Buy Bonus options
- A 97% RTP and a free official demo
- The symbol progression outline above the reels makes the merging easy to follow
Cons
- Very high volatility
- No max win in our catalogue; x10,000 is the studio's own claim
- The sequel's RTP is lower than the 97.25% of the original Merge Up
Verdict
Merge Up 2 gives the cluster format a progression system: symbols level up, level-eight clusters make bombs and bombs lead to scatters and free spins with cell multipliers. The 97% RTP means a 3% house edge, about $30 per $1,000, with Very high volatility and a ceiling that only the studio states. It suits players who like to follow a mechanic through several steps.
