Aztec Clusters review

Aztec Clusters is BGaming's 2024 cluster slot on a 6x8 grid. The studio says it was designed with an analytics partner after studying more than 10,000 hours of streamed play, and the result is a game stacked with multipliers: cell multipliers on the grid, a dig-up feature after wins and sticky wilds in the bonus. The listed RTP is a round 97% at Very high volatility. Catalogue and studio disagree on one point, the max win, covered below.

Clusters on a large grid

Wins come from clusters of five or more matching symbols that drop next to each other, vertically or horizontally. The winning symbols pay and disappear, and new symbols fill the gaps from above. The process continues within the same spin until no more winning combinations appear.

Connecting five or more symbols also activates Cells Multipliers of up to x10. The base game and the bonus both lean on multipliers, which the studio says are meant to give a sense of progression.

Dig-up and the spin options

After each win, the Dig-up feature can randomly bring in one of four extras: Sticky Wilds, a Booster, a Destroyer or a Scatter. They are the twists that change a cluster sequence mid-spin.

The studio also offers choices in how to spin. Regular spins are the default. The other two routes cost extra:

Wild Spin

Costs 20x the bet and ensures at least one wild is dug up before the spin starts. It is available only in the base game.

Buy Bonus

Opens the bonus game directly, with Sticky Wilds that carry multipliers of up to x100, according to the studio. The price is shown on the button.

Where the numbers conflict

Our catalogue does not publish a max win for Aztec Clusters. The studio's own description says players can hit a x10,000 max win, and that it is meant to be an achievable ceiling. We pass that on as BGaming's statement, not as catalogue data. At that figure, a $1 bet would top out at $10,000, though the number remains the studio's claim.

The volatility is Very high in our data, which fits a game that relies on multipliers to build large results.

RTP and session cost

One RTP is on record, 97%, which is a house edge of 3%. That works out to $30 lost per $1,000 wagered over a long run. A 100-spin session costs $0.60 on average at $0.20, $3 at $1 and $15 at $5. A free official demo is available.

Note that a Wild Spin costs 20x the bet, so a run of those spins raises the amount staked per spin considerably. The averages above apply to the amount wagered, so more wagered means more expected loss.

Games with matching RTPs

Lucky Dragon MultiDice X and Panda Luck also list 97% from 2024. Diamond of Jungle shows 97.01%, Fortuna TRUEWAYS 97.07%, Wild Heart 96.92% and Forgotten 96.89%. All are Very high volatility releases from the same year.

Pros

  • A 97% RTP, a house edge of 3%
  • Cells Multipliers up to x10 and sticky wilds with multipliers up to x100
  • Several ways to play: regular, Wild Spin or Buy Bonus
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Very high volatility
  • Max win is only stated by the studio, not in our catalogue
  • Wild Spin and Buy Bonus raise the amount staked per round

Verdict

Aztec Clusters packs a lot into a cluster format: cell multipliers, dig-up twists and sticky wilds in the bonus. The 97% RTP gives a 3% house edge, about $30 per $1,000, at Very high volatility. BGaming states a x10,000 max win, though our catalogue lists none. It suits players who enjoy layered multiplier systems and accept long swings. Try the free demo first and keep to a fixed budget.
