Cowboys Gold review

Cowboys Gold is a Wild West payline slot from 2020, and its rules are neatly split in two. In the ordinary game, Cowboy symbols arrive carrying cash values and a single Renegade symbol on the last reel gathers them. In the bonus, a retrigger ladder stretches the round to a fixed ceiling of 25 spins and a 5x multiplier. Pragmatic Play does not state a max win or a volatility rating, so those gaps are covered openly below.

Ten lines and a Renegade

The studio describes a 3×5 game with 10 paylines. Wins pay from the left, and the wild substitutes for every symbol except the Bonus and Renegade symbols. It lands on all reels.

The money feature runs on every spin. Cowboy symbols can hit with a random total-bet multiplier taken from a preset set, between 1x and 100x. The Renegade symbol appears only on reel 5, and when it lands the values of all Cowboy symbols on the screen are added together and paid.

Free spins from bonus symbols

The Bonus symbol appears on reels 2, 3 and 4. The Renegade also counts as a Bonus symbol for triggering purposes, which gives the round a second way in.

Trigger

Three Bonus symbols start the round. So does any number of Bonus symbols together with a Renegade, because the Renegade substitutes for the Bonus symbol. The round begins with 10 free spins.

Retriggers

The feature can be retriggered up to three times, using the same conditions as the trigger. Each retrigger adds 5 more free spins and raises the multiplier used by the money collect. The maximum is 25 spins for the whole round and a 5x multiplier.

Multiplier ladder

The multiplier stays at its starting value until the first retrigger. After that it rises to 2x, and the rules cap it at 5x. The studio's description gives the same two ceilings: 25 free spins and a 5x multiplier.

What is missing from the data

Our catalogue lists no max win and no volatility for Cowboys Gold, and the studio's copy refers only to a massive win potential. The rules sheet also lacks a stated cap. Without a ceiling, the money-collect range of 1x to 100x per Cowboy symbol and the 5x multiplier are the only hard numbers we can quote.

That means there is no way to say how large a single round can get, and we make no claim about it.

RTP and session cost

Cowboys Gold lists one RTP, 96.5%, a house edge of 3.5%. On $1,000 wagered the expected loss is $35. A session of 100 spins averages a loss of $0.70 at a $0.20 bet, $3.50 at $1 and $17.50 at $5, and the rules sheet confirms the same 96.5% figure as the theoretical RTP.

Other 2020 titles

Aztec Gems Deluxe, John Hunter and the book of Tut, Pyramid King, Release the Kraken and Super 7s all list 96.5% from the same year. Mysterious Egypt matches the return and is rated High.

Pros

  • Cowboy symbols carry values from 1x to 100x the bet
  • Renegade symbol collects every Cowboy value on screen
  • Free spins retrigger up to three times, ending at 25 spins and 5x
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • No max win or volatility rating published
  • The multiplier stays at its starting value until the first retrigger

Verdict

Cowboys Gold is a clean, short-rules payline slot: Cowboy values, one Renegade collector on the fifth reel and a free spins round that tops out at 25 spins and a 5x multiplier. The 96.5% RTP is shared by several 2020 peers and carries a 3.5% house edge. With no max win or volatility on record, try the official demo before staking anything real.
