Chambers of Ancients review
Chambers of Ancients is a key-and-lock game. Play'n GO built it on a 5x3 grid with 10 paylines, then tied each high-paying symbol to a vault chamber and the key that opens it. Land three matching keys and the chamber opens into its own Hold and Spin game; land three Master Keys and every chamber opens. It is a 2024 release, rated Very high volatility, and the lowest of its five RTP versions is 84.31%.
Keys, chambers and Master Keys
On the base game's 5x3 grid, each high-paying symbol is linked to one of the vault's chambers and carries a bonus value. It is also paired with the key that unlocks that chamber. The base game therefore doubles as a collection game, not just a line-pay game.
Wilds can bring a special Master Key along. A Master Key opens all the chambers at once. Wilds expand to fill their whole reel when they land, and the studio specifies that expanding does not affect the key, so the Hold and Spin games can still be triggered.
The Hold and Spin chambers
Three of the same key unlock the matching chamber and start its Hold and Spin bonus. Each chamber shows a 3x3 grid that holds only blanks and coins. The player gets three spins, and the count resets to three each time a new coin lands.
Coins carry different values or special effects. If every position on the grid is filled, the grid is cleared, the values are awarded and a new round begins.
Coin types
Every coin has its own value or special bonus feature. The studio lists four kinds: Collectors, Multipliers, Value Raisers and Mystery Symbols. The pack does not say what each one does, so only the names are given.
Three Master Keys
If three Master Keys trigger the Hold and Spin games, every chamber is unlocked in order of value. The studio text breaks off before it finishes describing the sequence, so the rest is not covered.
Free spins
Three or more Scatters in the base game open the free spins round, and the number of spins depends on how many Scatters land, up to 12. The Hold and Spin games can also be triggered during the free spins, where the chance of Keys appearing is increased.
Five RTP versions
The catalogue records 96.31%, 94.31%, 91.31%, 87.31% and 84.31%. House edges are 3.69%, 5.69%, 8.69%, 12.69% and 15.69%. Per $1,000 wagered the cost is about $36.90, $56.90, $86.90, $126.90 and $156.90.
In a 100-spin session the headline version costs $0.74 at a $0.20 bet, $3.69 at $1 and $18.45 at $5. The lowest version costs $3.14, $15.69 and $78.45. Volatility is Very high and no maximum win is published, so the review quotes no top figure.
Games from the same year
Other 2024 games with a Very high label include Spark of Genius at 96.3%, King's Mask Eclipse of Gods, Rise of Olympus Origins and Tomb of Gold at 96.29%, and Banquet of Dead and Gemix 100 at 96.2%.
Pros
- Keys and chambers link base game symbols to bonus games
- A Master Key can open all chambers at once
- Hold and Spin games can also trigger in the free spins
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Five RTP versions, the lowest at 84.31% with a 15.69% house edge
- Very high volatility and no maximum win published
- Coin effects and the Master Key sequence are not fully described in the source text
Verdict
Chambers of Ancients rewards a particular kind of patience: three matching keys, or a Master Key, are what open the bonus. A 96.31% RTP and 3.69% house edge describe the top version, and the weaker versions cost far more per session. With Very high volatility, treat it as paid entertainment and look at the free demo first.
