Charlie Chance review
Three scatters, four scatters and five scatters open three different bonus rounds here, and each one raises the multipliers on offer. That tiered structure, plus a horizontal multiplier reel that sits above the grid, is what sets Charlie Chance apart. Play'n GO released it in 2021 with 243 payways across five reels and rates it Very high for volatility, so the rewards are spread thinly and lean heavily on the bonus.
Three free spin rounds, one ladder
The number of scatters that land decides which round you get. Three scatters award Flaming Free Spins, four award Inferno Free Spins and five award Hellfire Free Spins. The rounds share the same rules and differ in one thing: the values on the multiplier reel.
In Flaming Free Spins the multiplier reel carries x2, x3 and x5. Inferno moves that up to x5, x6 and x8. Hellfire, the hardest to reach, offers x8, x9 and x25. Play'n GO does not state how many spins each round contains, so the comparison is about multipliers rather than length.
In every version of the bonus, any wild that lands stays on the reels for the whole feature. Those wilds do not sit still: on each spin, every one of them jumps to a different random position. A round that collects several early wilds therefore keeps a growing set of substitutes moving around the grid until it ends.
What happens in the base game
The base game has two mechanics of its own, both described by the studio.
Multiplier reel
When a win includes a wild, the reel holding that wild is highlighted. A separate multiplier reel then appears above the grid and spins sideways. Whatever value stops above the highlighted reel is applied to every win built from that reel, so a wild can both complete a win and raise it.
Second Chance Re-Spins
Two or more scatters trigger a re-spin with the scatter reels held in place. If another scatter lands, its reel is held too and the remaining reels spin again. This repeats until no new scatter appears, which gives a two-scatter spin a real chance of growing into one of the three free spin rounds.
Payways and the Dynamic Payways label
Charlie Chance is a five-reel game with 243 payways. Play'n GO calls the system Dynamic Payways and describes it as giving more ways to win on each spin. Wins are built across neighbouring reels rather than on fixed lines, so symbol placement within a reel matters less than landing matches on adjacent reels. Because the multiplier reel works reel by reel, a wild on a reel that feeds several payways at once can multiply more than one win in the same spin.
RTP settings, house edge and cost
There is not one RTP but five: 96.25%, 94.27%, 91.27%, 87.26% and 84.26%. The house edge runs from 3.75% at the top to 15.74% at the bottom. Put in money, $1,000 wagered costs about $37.50 on average at the best version and about $157.40 at the worst.
Smaller sessions show the same gap. One hundred spins at $1 cost $3.75 on average at 96.25% and $15.74 at 84.26%. At $0.20 a spin the figures are $0.75 and $3.15; at $5 they are $18.75 and $78.70. Which version you meet depends on the operator, so the top figure is a best case.
No max win or hit frequency is published for this title in our data. With a Very high volatility rating, long quiet stretches are part of the design, and a budget should be sized for them.
Related games
Two other Charlie Chance titles are listed. Charlie Chance in Hell to Pay from 2020 shows a 96.23% RTP and Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra from 2021 shows 96.25%; both are rated High rather than Very high.
Other 2021 releases with matching numbers include Agent of Hearts and Dr. Toonz, both at 96.25% and Very high volatility, and Gemix 2 at 96.26%.
Pros
- Three bonus tiers with multipliers that climb from x2 up to x25
- Sticky wilds that move every spin during all free spin rounds
- Second Chance Re-Spins can turn two scatters into a bonus
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Very high volatility means long dry spells are likely
- Five RTP versions, down to 84.26% with a 15.74% house edge
- No max win or free spin count published
Verdict
Charlie Chance rewards patience with a clear ladder: more scatters, better multipliers, up to x25 in Hellfire Free Spins, with wilds that stay and move for the whole round. The multiplier reel and the scatter re-spins keep the base game from being empty. Still, Very high volatility and RTP versions ranging from 96.25% to 84.26% make it a game for small, fixed budgets, best tested in the free demo first.
