Bass Boss review
In Bass Boss the fisherman does the collecting, one row at a time. Fish symbols carrying cash prizes land anywhere on a 5x5 grid, and the angler above the reels drops his hook onto a random row to pull in every fish on it. Red Tiger released the game on 1 August 2022. The bonus, Contest Spins, keeps the hook in the water and rewards a running fish count with extra spins and bigger multipliers.
Lines plus fish
The 5x5 grid pays on 10 lines, with stakes from €0.10 to €50.00 according to Red Tiger. The published hit frequency is 19.04%, a little under one spin in five.
Fish symbols sit outside the line system. They can land on any position, never count towards a line win, and each holds an Instant Win prize expressed as a multiple of the stake. Fish only pay out when the hook catches them.
Casting the line
Two random mechanics decide what the fish are worth in normal play.
The Catch
During or after a spin, the Bass Boss may cast his line. The hook sinks to a random row and collects every fish on that row, so several fish can be caught at once. After a miss on an empty row, or after a catch, he may nudge the line to another row for a second chance.
Improved Bait
In the base game, a random multiplier may appear on the float of the line. Any fish caught while it is there has its prize multiplied by that value, which can be x2, x3, x5 or x10.
Contest Spins and the fish meter
Three, four or five Contest Spins symbols anywhere start the bonus with 10, 15 or 20 spins. The main change is that the hook no longer appears at random. It stays in the water for the whole round, and after each spin the angler either holds it on the same row or shifts it up or down.
A progress bar counts every fish caught and has 4 milestones. Each milestone is reached with another 8 fish, and each one awards 10 more Contest Spins plus a higher float multiplier: x2 at the first, then x3, x5 and finally x10. The bar allows at most 4 retriggers, for 40 extra spins in total.
The multiplier only grows, so later catches in a long round are worth much more than early ones. Reaching the x10 stage takes a lot of fish, which is why the largest results depend on a long round rather than a lucky single spin.
What it costs and what it can pay
Bass Boss has an RTP of 95.7%, leaving a 4.3% edge for the house. Over a long stretch that is about $43 per $1,000 bet. For a run of 100 spins, the expected cost is $0.86 at $0.20, $4.30 at $1 and $21.50 at $5.
Volatility is rated High, and the cap is 4,835x the stake: $967 at $0.20, $4,835 at $1 and $24,175 at $5.
Megaways and comparable High slots
Bass Boss Megaways moves to Very high volatility with a 95.68% RTP and a 25,539x cap. Among High-rated Red Tiger games with nearby numbers are Dynamite Riches at 95.7% with 5,341x, Cash or Nothing at 95.69% with 5,000x and Pirates Plenty at 95.7% with 4,359x. No free demo of Bass Boss is listed.
Pros
- Hook mechanic can collect several fish prizes on one row
- Contest Spins retrigger up to 4 times for 40 extra spins
- Float multiplier climbs to x10 during the bonus
Cons
- High volatility with a 19.04% hit frequency
- No free demo on record
Verdict
Bass Boss turns fish prizes into a row-by-row collection game, with random bait multipliers in the base game and Contest Spins that hold the hook in the water while a fish meter adds spins and lifts the float multiplier to x10. The 4,835x cap and High volatility make for uneven sessions, and the 95.7% RTP means a 4.3% house edge. Plan around the 4.3% house edge.
