Happy Hooves review
Happy Hooves swaps the usual free spins for something more mechanical. Pragmatic Play's stable-themed slot runs on a 5x4 grid with 40 paylines, and its main event is the PowerNudge feature, where mystery symbols are revealed, nudged and respun until none are left. A win multiplier rises with every spin of the round. If you prefer not to wait for it, the feature can be bought directly.
Paylines and colour-coded wilds
Wins pay from left to right across the 40 paylines, and only the highest win on each line is paid. Bets are placed in coins per line, which the game converts to money.
The symbol set is split into four groups of two, each group sharing a colour. Every group has its own wild, and that wild substitutes only for the symbols inside the same group. This is different from a standard wild that fills in anywhere, so a wild is not always the symbol you need it to be.
The PowerNudge feature
Three or more scatters start PowerNudge, a respin round that runs until no mystery symbols remain on the screen. The studio says each spin increases the win multiplier by 1x, so a long chain of nudges and respins pays more than a short one.
Because the round ends only when the mystery symbols are gone, its length is not fixed. Extra spins can come from inside the feature itself, which makes the duration the main unknown.
Mystery symbols
During the round, mystery symbols can reveal ordinary base game symbols, instant win prizes, or a nudge-up. The studio lists these as the possible outcomes of a reveal.
Nudge-up
This reveal awards extra spins and increases the multiplier of the game further, in addition to the 1x added with each spin. It is one reason a round can run longer than expected.
Golden symbol
When a golden symbol is revealed, all positions holding mystery symbols respin to reveal a random money value. The rules extract does not give the range of those values.
Buying the round
A Buy Free Spins option costs 100x the bet. The purchase starts PowerNudge with an automatic spin that results in at least eight mystery symbols, split between two random reels. From there the game nudges and respins in the same way as the base game.
A price of 100x means a $1 bet needs $100 to buy in. That is a large sum compared with the cost of a normal spin, and buying does not change the house edge. The rules also state that the feature cannot be retriggered.
RTP, volatility and the cap
The catalogue lists a 96.5% RTP, a house edge of 3.5%, or about $35 lost per $1,000 wagered. The rules sheet shows a default RTP of 96.53%, so there is a second published figure, and operators may run either. Volatility is not published.
The maximum win is 5,000x the bet. That equals $1,000 at a $0.20 bet, $5,000 at $1 and $25,000 at $5.
For session planning on the 96.5% version, 100 spins at $0.20 cost about $0.70 on average, 100 spins at $1 cost $3.50, and 100 spins at $5, or $500 wagered, cost $17.50.
Similar games
Happy Hooves has no sequels in the catalogue. Games with comparable numbers include Release the Kraken 2 at 96.5% and 5,000x, Gold Party at 96.5% and 5,163x, and Big Bass Splash at 96.71% and 5,000x, all from 2022.
Pros
- Respin feature with a win multiplier that grows with every spin
- Bonus buy available for 100x the bet
- Max win of 5,000x the bet
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Wilds only substitute within their own colour group
- No volatility rating is published
- The feature cannot be retriggered, and buying it costs 100x the bet
Verdict
Happy Hooves is built around one idea, the PowerNudge respin, and most of its potential sits there. The catalogue RTP is 96.5% with 96.53% in the rules sheet, volatility is not published, and the cap is 5,000x. The 100x buy price makes each purchase expensive, and the 3.5% house edge applies either way. The free demo shows how the nudges behave before any money is involved.
