Wild Worlds review

Wild Worlds sends a band of heroes against monsters across several realms, and almost every feature is about wilds arriving in a different way. NetEnt's 5x5 slot from 2019 has two tricks in the main game, Hero Wilds and a Destroy feature, plus a free spins round whose rules change with the world you are sent to. It is rated Medium and tops out at 600x the bet, so the interest lies in the mechanics rather than in a huge ceiling.

A 5x5 board with an avalanche engine

The board is five reels by five rows. NetEnt's rules summary does not state a number of paylines or ways, so we do not quote one. What the rules do show is an avalanche system: winning symbols explode, new symbols land in their place, and some wilds are allowed to stay on the reels from one avalanche to the next.

The studio lists a stake range of €0.20 to €400.00, which makes the game playable at very small bets. Wins that chain together can pay several times from one paid spin, and wilds that survive an avalanche are what make a chain longer than it would otherwise be.

Two tricks in the main game

Both of these belong to the base game, so they are the part you will see most often. They reward different things: one turns a win into more wilds, the other strips the board down to a single colour.

Hero Wilds

When a win includes a Hero symbol, every remaining symbol of that same type on the board turns into a Wild. One win can therefore seed several wilds at once, which helps complete further combinations in the avalanche that follows. This is why Hero symbols are the ones to watch.

Destroy feature

When it fires, the reels are cleared of everything except symbols of one colour. Scatters are the exception and stay put. A board reduced to a single colour is set up for matching, which is the purpose of the feature. The studio text we have does not say what triggers it.

Free spins and the three worlds

Three scatters landing anywhere on the reels in the main game activate 8 free spins. Before the round begins, the player spins a wheel, and the result decides which of three worlds hosts the spins. Each world has its own wild behaviour.

Heroes and monsters both appear during the round, and the heroes attack the monsters. There are four monsters in total: three Captains and one Boss. The studio says the world's feature is activated by destroying a Captain or one of the Boss's weak spots. The text available to us breaks off before the full cycle is explained, so we leave it there.

Dark Forest: Spreading Wilds

A single Spreading Wild is placed at random. If it completes a winning combination, it explodes with the other symbols, and new Spreading Wilds appear in the positions next to it. Each one can create up to two further Spreading Wilds, so a single lucky placement can grow into a cluster.

Ice World: Heavy Wilds

A stack of two Heavy Wild symbols is dropped on the reels at random. If they take part in a win, they complete it and are then destroyed. If they do not contribute, they disappear with the next avalanche. Because they vanish either way, their value depends on landing where a win is already close.

Fire Lands: Random Wilds

Between two and four Random Wilds are placed. When they are part of a win, they explode along with the other symbols, and any new symbol landing in their place also becomes a Wild. If they do not contribute but a win happens elsewhere, they stay for the next avalanche.

What the numbers say

There is one RTP on record, 96.47%, which leaves a house edge of 3.53%. Across $1,000 of play that is $35.30 lost on average. The game is rated Medium and shows a hit frequency of 21%, which is roughly one spin in five with a win of some size.

As session costs, 100 spins at $0.20 come to $0.71 on average, 100 spins at $1 to $3.53 and 100 spins at $5 to $17.65. The max win is 600x the bet. In money that is $120 at a $0.20 stake, $600 at $1 and $3,000 at $5. Averages say nothing about a single session, which can end far from them in either direction.

Where it sits among similar slots

No sequels or spin-offs are listed for this title. Games with close numbers include Jingle Spin at 96.48% and a 600x ceiling, EggOMatic at 96.5% with the same 600x, and Lights at 96.1% also capped at 600x. Golden Grimoire lists 96.44% and 500x, while Fairytale Legends: Red Riding Hood reaches 800x at 96.33%. The Legend of Shangri - La: Cluster Pays offers 800x at 96.59%. All of them are rated Medium.

Pros

  • Hero Wilds turn every remaining symbol of the winning Hero type into wilds
  • Three free spins worlds, each with its own wild behaviour (Spreading, Heavy and Random)
  • A 21% hit frequency means roughly one spin in five pays something
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Max win is 600x the bet, modest for a game with this many features
  • The studio text we have does not state paylines, ways or what triggers the Destroy feature

Verdict

Wild Worlds is a feature-led Medium slot: 96.47% RTP, a 3.53% house edge and a 600x ceiling. The appeal is variety, since the free spins send you to one of three worlds with different wild rules and the main game has its own conversion tricks. If you want a bigger top prize, look elsewhere. As with any slot, treat it as paid entertainment with a known cost, and try the free demo first.
