Vault Cracker Megaways review
Vault Cracker Megaways is a heist, and the loot is stored in safes. Red Tiger's November 2024 follow-up to Vault Cracker combines the Megaways engine and cascading wins with scatters that hold cash prizes. Two characters open them: the Hold-Up Artist unlocks what is visible, and the Heist Master starts a respin round in which safes lock in place. The catalogue rates the game Medium volatility, with a 2,484x top prize and a buy option.
Megaways and cascades
The layout is listed as 7-7-7-7-7-7 with up to 117,649 ways, and bets run from €0.10 to €50.00. Wins form from the leftmost reel to the right on adjacent reels. When a win lands, the winning symbols vanish and fresh symbols cascade into the gaps, which may trigger further wins.
Cash Safes and the Hold-Up Artist
Cash Safes are scatters that can land anywhere. They do not pay by themselves; each holds a random cash prize that one of two special characters can unlock.
Hold-Up Artist
A single Hold-Up Artist scatter that lands together with visible Cash Safes opens them and reveals their prizes. The award is the total sum of all the Cash Safes prizes on screen.
Heist Master
This powerful scatter triggers instant prizes when it lands on any reel. During the Heist round, the Cash Safes lock in place along with the Heist Master, which allows unlimited respins.
How the Heist round pays
Completing a reel with Cash Safes earns a multiplier between x2 and x7, and the multipliers combine if several reels fill. When the Heist ends, all safes unlock and reveal their prizes. The total is the sum of the safes multiplied by the Heist multipliers. The round concludes when every reel is filled with Cash Safes, or earlier through the Rivalry feature.
The Rivalry feature is triggered by the Scarlet Rogue during a Heist, with one per reel. It activates the Rivalry Wheel, which has 6 green sectors. Each Scarlet Rogue turns one sector red, up to 5. A green sector lets the Heist continue, and a red one ends the bonus round. So the wheel puts a limit on a run that would otherwise be open-ended.
Buying in
The studio lists two buy options. The Hold-Up Artist option costs 10x the stake and ensures that a Hold-Up Artist and Cash Safe symbols appear. The Heist option costs 60x the stake and ensures a Heist Master and entry into the Heist round. A buy is a paid shortcut to the feature, not a cheaper route to the same result.
RTP, cost and ceiling
Vault Cracker Megaways has one RTP on record, 95.68%, a house edge of 4.32%. That is about $43.20 lost per $1,000 wagered over a long run. A 100-spin session costs about $0.86 at a $0.20 bet, $4.32 at $1 and $21.60 at $5.
The hit frequency is 31.15%. The maximum win is 2,484x the bet, which is $496.80 at $0.20, $2,484 at $1 and $12,420 at $5.
The original and similar games
The earlier Vault Cracker from 2021 lists 95.66%, Medium volatility and 1,410x, so this version raises the ceiling. Among similar games, Gems Inferno Megaways lists 95.67% and 2,553x with a High rating. Cash Volt from 2020 lists 95.71% and 2,500x, the 2024 title with the Devil 95.71% and 2,523x, and Cake and Ice Cream 95.72% and 2,500x. Rock'n'Lock lists 95.69% and 2,340x, and Apache Way 95.75% and 2,571x.
Pros
- Cash Safes can be locked in the Heist for unlimited respins, with reel multipliers of x2 to x7
- Up to 117,649 ways with cascading wins
- Two buy options, at 10x and 60x the stake
- Free official demo available
Cons
- The Rivalry Wheel can end the Heist early
- Entering the Heist by buy costs 60x the stake
- Several mechanics to learn: safes, two scatter characters and the wheel
Verdict
Vault Cracker Megaways turns a heist into a set of linked mechanics: cascades in the base game, safes holding prizes and a respin round whose length is capped by the Rivalry Wheel. The 95.68% RTP and Medium volatility give a 4.32% house edge and a moderate pace, with 2,484x as the ceiling. The free demo is the easiest way to learn how the safes and multipliers work before staking money.
