Vicky Ventura review

Red Tiger sends an explorer after Totem Crystals in this 2019 release, and the crystals do more than pay. Each one wakes the Mystic Totem, which fires energy at the reels and turns locked tiles into Wilds. The grid is not fixed either: the studio lists it as three rows per reel at the start and up to seven at the top, so the number of ways to win changes as tiles open up. The free spins add locked rows of their own.

A grid with locked tiles

The game has five reels and starts from three rows on each. Some tiles on the reels are locked, and the studio's specification gives the largest layout as seven rows per reel. That matches the maximum of 16,807 ways listed in its fact box, while the studio's own blurb rounds the figure to up to 16,000 ways. The two figures are close, and we pass on both as printed.

More open tiles mean more positions where a symbol can sit, and so more ways for a win to form. That is why the unlocking feature matters more here than any single symbol.

How the Mystic Totem works

Everything in the base game revolves around the Totem Crystal. When one lands, the Mystic Totem activates and sends energy into random tiles. The result depends on what it hits.

Energy beam on locked tiles

Any locked tile touched by the beam is opened and shows a Wild. The tile was closed before, so this also adds a playable position to the grid. Locked tiles are therefore both an obstacle and a reward waiting to be opened.

Energy beam on unlocked tiles

Tiles that are already open do not become Wilds. Instead the beam converts them into copies of the same symbol, or into additional Totem Crystals. The studio says the whole process repeats for each Totem Crystal that lands on the reels, so several crystals in one spin mean several beams.

Free spins and the extra rows

The studio describes the free spins as the place where the grid grows: the round awards two additional locked rows. On the opening spin of the round, if the totem's energy picks a tile in one of those rows, it opens as a Wild.

On later free spins that tile stays open but stops being a Wild. It behaves like any other tile and produces a random result each spin, which adds ways to win without adding a permanent Wild. The pack does not give the number of free spins or how to trigger the round, so we do not state either.

What the numbers say

Vicky Ventura has a single RTP on record, 96.16%. The house edge is therefore 3.84%, or about $38.40 lost for every $1,000 wagered. The catalogue lists High volatility and a hit frequency of 39.91%, which means roughly four in ten spins return something, though that something is often smaller than the stake.

A 100-spin session costs about $0.77 at a $0.20 bet, $3.84 at $1 and $19.20 at $5. The maximum win is 10,449x the bet. In money that is $2,089.80 at $0.20, $10,449 at $1 and $52,245 at $5. The studio's blurb mentions wins of up to 10,000x, while its fact box shows 10,449x; we use the larger figure because it matches the catalogue.

Similar High volatility slots

No other Vicky Ventura titles are in our catalogue. Games with comparable numbers include The Equalizer (96.08%, High, up to 10,462x), Take the Money (96.11%, High, 10,009x) and Shark Boss (96.11%, High, 10,000x). Dragon Duo shares the same 96.16% RTP and lists a higher maximum of 12,876x, and Steve, Larry And Gogo sits at 96.15% with 12,393x.

Pros

  • Mystic Totem converts locked tiles into Wilds and grows the grid
  • Up to 16,807 ways at the largest layout
  • 39.91% hit frequency keeps some activity between big results
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • High volatility, so long dry stretches are normal
  • The free spin count and trigger are not stated in the source text
  • Studio text gives 10,000x in its blurb and 10,449x in its fact box

Verdict

Vicky Ventura is a grid-growing slot built around one idea: open the locked tiles. A 96.16% RTP means a 3.84% house edge, and High volatility means results swing widely even with a 39.91% hit frequency. The 10,449x ceiling is real but remote. Treat it as paid entertainment, set a stake you can afford to lose, and try the free demo to see how often the Totem opens the board.
