Space Wars 2 Powerpoints review
In Space Wars 2 Powerpoints, a cluster does not pay in plain money. Every matched symbol earns Powerpoints, the points fill a meter, and the meter raises a multiplier. NetEnt's 2022 sequel sits on a 6x6 board and adds a toolkit of clearing symbols (Blasters, Zappers and Bombs) that can also be combined. The catalogue lists a 43% hit frequency alongside a Very high label, a pairing worth keeping in mind.
Powerpoints and the collect meter
Each symbol match awards Powerpoints, which fill a collect meter. As it fills, the player levels up and the win multiplier grows. The payout is the bet multiplied by the Powerpoints value, and the system works the same way in the main game and in the free spins.
Collecting 1,000 or more Powerpoints in the main game triggers the free spins, as the studio's own summary puts it. The pack's rules text is cut off after that point, so the details of the round beyond what is stated below are not covered.
Clearing symbols
Cluster wins blast symbols off the board, which the studio describes as chain reactions. The size and shape of a match decides which special symbol you earn.
Column and Row Blasters
A horizontal match of four awards a Column Blaster that removes every symbol from its whole reel, except wilds and feature symbols. A vertical match of four awards a Row Blaster that clears its row. Both also add bonus Powerpoints.
Zapper
A match of five removes one to four types of symbol. A match of six removes three to four types. In the free spins, matches of five to eight symbols earn a Zapper.
Bomb
A cluster that contains both vertical and horizontal matches places a Bomb once the win resolves. It explodes, removes the symbols around it and awards Powerpoints. If it touches a Multiplier Wild, the Powerpoints payout is boosted.
Wilds and combos
A match of three creates a Wild in place of one removed symbol. In the free spins, Multiplier Wilds carry 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x or 25x and multiply the Powerpoints of a win they join. Special symbols that land next to each other combine, for example a Zapper with a Bomb turns one to three symbol types into Bombs that all explode together.
Combo rules in short
The studio lists three combos. A Blaster beside a Bomb widens the clear: a Column Blaster clears its own reel plus the reels either side, and a Row Blaster clears its row plus the rows above and below. A Zapper with a Bomb makes Bombs out of one to three symbol types. A Zapper with a Blaster makes Blasters out of one to three types, and they all fire along with the Zapper.
What the numbers say
The RTP is 96.1%, a house edge of 3.9%, or about $39 lost per $1,000 wagered. A 100-spin session averages $0.78 at a $0.20 bet, $3.90 at $1 and $19.50 at $5. The hit frequency is listed at 43%, but the Very high label means the large results are concentrated in rare events.
The maximum win is 10,000x the bet: $2,000 at $0.20, $10,000 at $1 and $50,000 at $5.
The original and similar games
The original Space Wars from 2013 lists 96.75%, Medium volatility and a 1,000x maximum, so the sequel lists a tenfold higher ceiling and a Very high label instead of Medium. Games with similar Very high numbers include Demon Beats (96.08%, 10,000x), Jack Hammer 4: Chasing the Dragon (96.03%, 10,000x), Twin Spin XXXtreme (96.06%, 9,600x) and Silverback Gold (96.11%, 9,300x).
Pros
- Powerpoints meter raises the multiplier in both the main game and the free spins
- Blasters, Zappers and Bombs clear the board and can be combined
- Multiplier Wilds up to 25x in the free spins
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Very high volatility despite a 43% hit frequency
- Several special symbols and three combos to keep track of
- Free spin count and details beyond the 1,000-point trigger are not in the source text
Verdict
Space Wars 2 Powerpoints rewards players who like systems: matches earn points, points raise a multiplier, and clearing symbols can chain. A 96.1% RTP, a 3.9% house edge and Very high volatility describe a game that returns something often but pays big rarely. The free demo is the best place to learn what the Blasters and Bombs do.
