Jack Hammer 4: Chasing the Dragon review

Detective Jack Hammer returns to Chinatown in NetEnt's fourth outing, this time chasing a figure called the Dragon through shadowy alleys. The game is a 6x6 cluster slot from 2025 and it is dense with rules: winning clusters lock in place for re-spins, four corner positions hold special symbols, and the free spins run on a handful of corner features that act on multipliers. The only other Jack Hammer in our catalogue is the 2010 original.

Sticky Win and the corners

A re-spin starts when you land a cluster win with 6 symbols or when at least 3 scatters appear. During re-spins the winning clusters and scatters stay where they are. The re-spins keep coming as long as new symbols join the cluster or more scatters land, and the feature ends when nothing new is added.

The four corner positions work differently from the rest of the grid. They can only hold Question symbols or Wilds. When a corner symbol joins a cluster win, a Wild triggers its special feature, and a Question symbol turns into a Wild and then triggers the feature from the studio's table.

Corner Wild features

The studio lists Expander (and Super Expander), Upgrader (and Super Upgrader), Multiplier, and Cash Prize (and Super Cash Prize). If all four trigger at once they resolve in that order: Expander, Upgrader, Multiplier, then Cash Prize.

The free spins and their four tools

Five scatters award only 3 free spins, but the round starts with 3 multiplier symbols already on the reels. In this round only multipliers can land, and each new one resets the free spins counter to 3. A round can therefore run for much longer than its starting count suggests.

Unlock

Expands the play area by adding the top row first, then the bottom row. It can happen twice at most.

Generate

Places 3 random multipliers on the grid. It can activate up to 3 times before Collect takes place.

Double

Doubles the multipliers next to it. Like Generate, it can activate up to 3 times before Collect.

Collect

Adds up all multipliers, clears them from the reels and applies the total to the win. If all four features trigger at once, the order is Generate, Unlock, Double, Collect.

Elevate options and feature buy

The studio lists Elevate Features that let you secure Wilds, Free Spins or Super Free Spins, and one named option, Free Spins Hunt, doubles the chance of triggering Free Spins. The studio page also marks a feature buy-in as available. These choices change how a spin is priced or how the game plays, so treat any paid shortcut as part of the stake you are spending, not as a way to win more.

RTP, volatility and ceiling

The only RTP on record is 96.03%, which gives a house edge of 3.97%, or about $39.70 lost per $1,000 wagered. Volatility is Very high and the hit frequency is 24%. The max win is 10,000x the bet: $2,000 at $0.20, $10,000 at $1 and $50,000 at $5.

A 100-spin session costs on average $0.79 at $0.20, $3.97 at $1 and $19.85 at $5.

The original and similar games

The first Jack Hammer, from 2010, lists 96.96% RTP, Low volatility and a 700x max win, a very different profile. Among current alternatives, What's Up? Witches is at 96.03% with 10,180x, Demon Beats at 96.08% with 10,000x, and Space Wars 2 Powerpoints at 96.1% with 10,000x. Twin Spin XXXtreme shows 96.06% and 9,600x, Dead West 96.06% and 10,863x, and Piggy Riches 3: Hog Heaven 96.06% and 10,300x. All are rated Very high.

Pros

  • Sticky Win re-spins keep clusters and scatters in place while new symbols arrive
  • Free spins add Unlock, Generate, Double and Collect around the multipliers
  • A 10,000x max win with a 24% hit frequency
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Many interlocking rules, so the demo is worth using before staking money
  • Very high volatility means long dry spells are normal
  • A single RTP of 96.03% with a 3.97% house edge

Verdict

Jack Hammer 4 asks you to learn several systems, but they connect neatly: Sticky Win locks clusters, the corners trigger wild effects, and the free spins run on multipliers that are generated, doubled and finally collected. With 96.03% RTP, Very high volatility and a 10,000x ceiling it sits in line with the similar games listed above. It is paid entertainment with a 3.97% house edge, best explored in the free demo first.
