Rise of Olympus Origins review
Before Zeus ruled, the Titans did. Rise of Olympus Origins goes back to the moment Zeus, Poseidon, Hades and their siblings overthrew their father Cronus, and Play'n GO turns the three brothers into three kinds of grid power. It is a 5x5 cluster slot from 2024 and part of the Rise of Olympus line that began in 2018, and nearly every rule revolves around which god's symbols appear in a winning cluster.
Clusters, cascades and Wild Creation
Winning clusters form on the 5x5 grid and cascade, so symbols above fall into the gaps left by those that pay. The base game adds a wild-maker on top. Whenever a winning cluster is made from lower-paying symbols, the gods create a Wild from the ashes. That wild can then help form more clusters once everything has cascaded into place.
The effect is simple to follow: small wins feed the wilds, and the wilds feed the larger wins.
Power of the Gods
If three or more god symbols align in a winning cluster, there is a chance that god's power fires. The chance grows with every extra god symbol in the cluster, and five symbols always trigger it. Winning with the special Relic symbols enhances the matching god's next power, and a Power Indicator in the top corner shows the upgrade.
Hades
Transforms every instance of one symbol into the next highest-paying symbol. This can create winning clusters where none existed before.
Poseidon
Embodies the chaos of the sea and creates a number of Wild symbols on the grid. The studio does not state how many.
Zeus
Zaps two sets of symbols off the grid entirely, which triggers a cascade that may make room for higher-paying symbols.
Wrath of Olympus
Every win that mixes Zeus, Hades and Poseidon symbols adds the number of symbols involved to a charge meter, which resets once all wins in that round have stopped. The studio text we hold cuts off before it describes what a full meter does, so the reward is not described here. What the rules do show is that mixed-god wins, not single-god ones, are what builds this meter.
Maths and cost
There are five RTP versions: 96.29%, 94.29%, 91.25%, 87.29% and 84.29%. The house edge ranges from 3.71% to 15.71%. For each $1,000 wagered the average cost is $37.10 on the best version and $157.10 on the weakest. Volatility is Very high, and no max win is published.
Over 100 spins at $0.20, the average cost is $0.74 on the headline version and $3.14 on the lowest. At $1 it is $3.71 and $15.71, and at $5 it is $18.55 and $78.55.
The original and similar games
The 2018 Rise of Olympus lists 96.5% RTP and High volatility, so the prequel is one step more volatile and slightly lower on headline RTP. Other 2024 games rated Very high include King's Mask Eclipse of Gods and Tomb of Gold at 96.29%, Spark of Genius at 96.3%, Chambers of Ancients at 96.31%, and Banquet of Dead and Gemix 100 at 96.2%.
Pros
- Three distinct god powers, each changing the grid in a different way
- Five god symbols in a cluster always trigger that god's power
- Wilds are created from wins made with lower-paying symbols
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Very high volatility, with no max win published
- Five RTP versions, the weakest at 84.29%
- The charge meter reward is not described in the studio text we hold
Verdict
Rise of Olympus Origins is a clean cluster design with a clear hierarchy: lower wins make wilds, god symbols trigger powers, and mixed-god wins build a meter. The 96.29% headline RTP and Very high volatility match the other 2024 games listed above, and the 3.71% house edge climbs to 15.71% on the weakest version.
