Beach Invaders review
Aliens in flip-flops have landed on a sunny shore. In Beach Invaders, a 5x4 NetEnt slot from 2023, they appear as wilds that expand to cover a whole reel and then stay put for a number of spins. How long they stay is decided by a progress bar that you fill by collecting pink plasma patches. The free spins turn the idea around, with wilds that move across the board and gain multipliers as they go.
Plasma patches and the progress bar
Pink plasma ice cube patches attach themselves to paying symbols. Wilds and the free spins scatter cannot carry them, and a single spin can collect at most 20. One milestone is reached after 30 patches. A bar above the reels has four milestones, and each stands for the number of spins an expanded wild stays locked when it lands.
When the bar is full it resets, and any additional patches go towards the next fill. The milestones are what set the lock length, in a range of one to four spins, so the bar is the part of the screen to watch in the main game.
Alien wilds in the main game
The aliens always expand to cover the full reel and stand in for every paying symbol except the free spins scatter. They lock for one to four spins, as the progress bar says. If a new wild lands in a position where an expanding wild with a multiplier already sits, it expands again and takes the current multiplier as its starting point.
Free spins: wilds that teleport
Three scatters send you to 10 free spins, and the progress bar disappears for the duration. The wilds still expand over the entire reel, and each arrives with a multiplier.
Every spin, a wild moves one reel to the left. It also shrinks by one symbol in height, while its multiplier grows by 1x. When it is only one symbol high, or reaches the left-most reel, it disappears. Multipliers run from 1x to 5x, and they boost the win of each combination the wild joins. If several wilds take part in one combination, their multipliers add up.
Expanding Wilds
Cover a whole reel, substitute for every paying symbol except the free spins scatter, and lock for one to four spins in the main game.
Teleporting wilds
In the free spins they move one reel left each spin, lose one symbol of height and gain 1x of multiplier, up to 5x.
Numbers and the 20,847x ceiling
The RTP is 96.09%, a house edge of 3.91%, which comes to about $39.10 lost per $1,000 wagered. In 100 spins, a $0.20 bet costs about $0.78, a $1 bet about $3.91 and a $5 bet about $19.55.
The hit frequency is 27.8% and volatility is Very high. The max win is 20,847 times the bet: $4,169.40 at $0.20, $20,847 at $1 and $104,235 at $5. The studio lists bets from EUR 0.10 to EUR 40.00.

Pros

- Free spins with wilds that reach multipliers of 1x to 5x
- 20,847x max win and a 27.8% hit frequency
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Very high volatility
- Two separate systems, patches and teleporting wilds, take time to learn
- The progress bar is not used in the free spins
Verdict
Beach Invaders is a feature-dense slot where the wild is the main character, first as a locking expansion and then as a moving multiplier. The 96.09% RTP and Very high volatility match a 20,847x ceiling, and the 3.91% house edge is the long-run price. The free demo is the best way to see how the patches and the bar fit together.
