Wild Falls review

Set in 1896 at the start of the Klondike Gold Rush, Wild Falls has a river running above its reels. Wild Chests drift along it and drop onto the reels, and those same chests act as scatters. Everything else follows from that: respins that hold wilds, a golden version of the chests with hidden multipliers, and free spins in which chests walk down the reels one step at a time.

Chests from the river

The core idea is visible on every spin. Wild Chests float towards the reels on the river and then fall into place, where they substitute to complete winning lines. Because the chests double as scatters, they are also the key to all four bonus features: Rapid Re-Spins, Gold Rush, River of Gold and Super River of Gold.

The features link to each other rather than standing alone. A respin sequence can end in free spins, and a golden-chest spin can open the strongest version of those free spins.

The four modes, one by one

The studio describes each mode in some detail, which makes it possible to follow how one leads into another.

Rapid Re-Spins

Starts when one or two chests land. After line wins are paid, the wild stays in place and every other position spins again. New wins are paid, then the wild drops off and the sequence ends, unless another wild lands, in which case both stick and another respin follows. A third wild leads to a third respin, its wins are paid, and River of Gold begins.

Gold Rush

Awarded during regular spins. For that spin and all of its respins, every chest becomes a Golden Chest with a hidden multiplier of 2x, 3x or 5x, and the studio says these can combine to a maximum of 125x. Three Gold Chests landing during Gold Rush unlock Super River of Gold.

River of Gold

Three scatters landing on reels 2, 3 or 4 trigger it. Chests no longer fall off after a spin ends; they move down one position per spin until they drop off the bottom. The free spins keep running as long as at least one Wild Chest remains on the reels.

Super River of Gold

Works like River of Gold, but every chest is golden and holds a hidden multiplier. Once the free spins end, the chests return to normal. According to the studio, this mode is where the 10,000x payout potential lies.

Why the walking chests matter

In River of Gold the length of the round is not fixed. It depends on chests staying on the reels, so each new chest that lands buys extra time as it walks down. That makes the free spins open-ended: a round can be short when few chests appear, or long when they keep arriving. In the Super version, every one of those chests also carries a multiplier, which explains why the studio ties its top payout figure to it.

Five RTP versions

Wild Falls exists at 96.5%, 94.5%, 91.5%, 87.5% and 84.5%. The corresponding house edges are 3.5%, 5.5%, 8.5%, 12.5% and 15.5%. Per $1,000 played, the expected loss climbs from $35 to $55, $85, $125 and finally $155.

Over 100 spins at $1, the best version averages a $3.50 cost and the worst $15.50. At $0.20 that is $0.70 against $3.10, and at $5 it is $17.50 against $77.50. Since operators can run any of these, the RTP printed in the game's help is the figure to check.

The volatility rating is Very high. Our catalogue holds no maximum win; the 10,000x figure above is the studio's own statement about Super River of Gold.

Sequel and similar slots

Wild Falls 2 came in 2022 with a 96.2% RTP, Very high like the original. From the same 2019 Play'n GO line-up, Honey Rush shares the 96.5% headline, while The Sword and The Grail lists 96.53% and Inferno Joker 96.38%, all three rated Very high.

Pros

  • Four linked bonus modes driven by one wild-and-scatter chest
  • Golden Chests carry hidden 2x, 3x or 5x multipliers, up to 125x
  • Open-ended free spins that last while chests remain
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Lowest RTP version is 84.5%, a 15.5% house edge
  • Very high volatility
  • No max win in our catalogue, only the studio's 10,000x claim

Verdict

Wild Falls turns a single symbol, the floating Wild Chest, into four connected features, from holding respins to free spins where chests walk down the reels and golden versions add hidden multipliers. The top setting is 96.5%, though the 84.5% version is far costlier. Very high volatility and a studio-quoted 10,000x ceiling make it a swingy game. Use the free demo and set a budget first.
