Wild Blood review

Vampires and vials of blood set the mood for this 2013 Play'n GO release. Under the gothic look sits a slot with more layers than its age suggests: a wild that expands on the middle reel, a medallion-triggered free spins feature with a locked wild column, a pick game that leads into multiplied free spins, and an optional gamble on every win. The studio itself counts four bonus rounds.

The wild and the three scatters

The wild replaces any regular symbol, but not the scatter and bonus symbols. When it lands on reel 3, it stretches to fill that whole reel.

Three different special symbols drive the features, and each has its own territory. The vial of blood bonus scatter appears only on reels 1, 3 and 5. The medallion lands only on reels 2 and 4 and is absent during free spins. The "Wild Blood" scatter can show up on any reel and matters most inside the pick bonus's free spins.

Medallion re-spins with a fixed wild reel

According to the rules, an expanded wild on reel 1 together with medallions on reels 2 and 4 starts the re-spin feature. What follows is a run of free spins in which reel 3 is covered by an expanded wild for the entire sequence. That fixed column substitutes for everything except the two scatter types.

The run can be extended. If medallion pieces appear on both reels 2 and 4 during the feature, more free spins are added. The page does not state how many spins the feature starts with.

Pick-the-Blood and the multiplier free spins

Three vial bonus scatters open Pick-the-Blood. You choose vials one at a time, and the game ends when a vial turns out to be unstable and explodes. Prizes collected in this pick stage are not multiplied later.

Free spins follow the pick game. Wins in them are multiplied, starting at 2x. Each time two or more "Wild Blood" scatters land anywhere, the multiplier steps up, to a ceiling of 5x. The pick bonus can be won again inside the free spins, which adds more spins, up to a total of 50.

This is where most of the upside in the design lies: a long free spins run that builds the multiplier towards 5x applies it to every line win that follows.

Gamble

After any win you can press GAMBLE and guess a face-down card. Naming the right colour doubles the prize, and naming the right suit quadruples it. The round can be repeated up to five times in a row, with a limit of 2500 coins. It is entirely optional, and using it adds another layer of risk to a prize that is already won.

Return figures across five versions

Wild Blood exists in five RTP builds: 96.24%, 94.26%, 91.3%, 87.29% and 84.26%. Their house edges are 3.76%, 5.74%, 8.7%, 12.71% and 15.74%. Which one you meet depends on the operator.

Translated into money per $1,000 bet over the long term, the expected cost is $37.60 at the top, then $57.40, $87, $127.10 and finally $157.40 at the bottom. A session of 100 spins at $1 averages $3.76 on the best build and $15.74 on the worst. At $5 a spin the same comparison is $18.80 against $78.70, and at $0.20 it is $0.75 against $3.15.

The volatility is rated Medium, and no max win is published.

The sequel and older studio neighbours

Wild Blood 2 followed in 2020 with a 96.18% RTP and a Medium rating. Comparable older Play'n GO titles include Ninja Fruits from 2013 at 96.65%, Enchanted Meadow from 2012 at 96.24% and Tower Quest from 2015, also at 96.24%. All of these carry the Medium label.

With moderate volatility and two different routes into free spins, Wild Blood fits players who want regular feature activity without the extreme swings of higher-rated games. Leaving the gamble alone avoids stacking extra swings on top of each win.

Pros

  • Two separate routes into free spins, one with a fixed wild reel
  • Free spins multiplier rises from 2x to 5x, with up to 50 spins in total
  • Medium volatility and a free official demo

Cons

  • Five RTP versions, the lowest at 84.26%
  • Pick-the-Blood can end early on an exploding vial
  • No published max win, and the gamble feature adds extra risk

Verdict

Wild Blood packs a lot into a 2013 vampire slot: an expanding wild, medallion re-spins with a fixed wild reel, a pick game feeding free spins with a 2x to 5x multiplier, and an optional gamble. Medium volatility keeps swings moderate. The 96.24% RTP holds only on the best of five versions, so check which one is active and treat the house edge as the cost of entertainment.
