Lucky Ducky review
Nine levels of ducks, from plain ducklings to a crowned King Duck, sit at the centre of this 2024 BGaming game. Clusters do not just pay and disappear; they merge into the next level up, so a single spin can climb the ladder. Reaching the top of that ladder can produce scatters, and the free spins add cell multipliers that grow to x128. With a 97.25% RTP and very high volatility, the numbers are as distinctive as the theme.
Merging instead of tumbling
The studio calls its win system MergeUP. A cluster forms when 4 or more identical symbols touch horizontally or vertically. After the cluster pays, its symbols merge into a symbol one level higher, and the payout depends on both the level and the size of the cluster. Because the upgraded symbol can join another cluster, wins can chain into ever-higher symbols.
There are 9 symbol levels in total. The 8th is the King Duck, and the 9th is the scatter, which means the ladder itself is one route into the bonus. The visuals are bright and summery, with ducks in hats and crowns under a blue sky.
The practical effect is that the base game is about more than single wins. A low-level cluster that merges can set up a higher-level cluster on the same spin, and the most valuable sequences are those that keep climbing. The design rewards long chains rather than any one symbol landing.
Scatters and the free spins
Scatters can drop anywhere on the reels or appear when a King Duck cluster merges upward. Four or more on the screen start the bonus.
Free Spins
Four, five and six or more scatters award 15, 18 and 20 free spins. In the round, any cell where a winning cluster forms is marked. If another win lands on a marked cell, that cell gains an x2 multiplier, which grows with each further win there, up to x128. Landing 4, 5 or 6+ scatters again adds 5, 8 or 10 spins.
Chance x2
An optional mode that raises the bet slightly in exchange for doubling the chance of triggering the bonus. It cannot run at the same time as the Buy Bonus, so you choose one route into the free spins, not both.
Buy Bonus
Lets you pay a displayed price to enter the free spins directly; the next spin after the purchase triggers the round. The price scales with your bet, so the cost relative to the stake stays the same. It is disabled while Chance x2 is active. Buying skips the wait but does not change the maths of the round itself.
Return, volatility and the ceiling
Lucky Ducky has one RTP, 97.25%, leaving a house edge of 2.75%. Over the long run that is about $27.50 kept per $1,000 wagered. For 100 spins the average cost is $0.55 at $0.20, $2.75 at $1 and $13.75 at $5. That is a low cost, but it is an average across a very large number of spins.
Volatility is Very high. Combined with multipliers that only build inside the bonus, it means most of the return sits in rarer, larger results, and stretches without much happening are expected. Our catalogue has no max-win figure, but the studio's own FAQ states a top win of 5,000x the stake.
Merge-up relatives
Lucky Ducky X-mas, also from 2024, shares the 97.25% RTP and Very high rating. Among similar games, Merge Up from 2023 and Lucky 8 Merge Up from 2024 list the same 97.25% RTP, and Wild Card Gang from 2025 matches it too. Alien Fruits 2 is close behind at 97.17%.
A fit for whom
Players who enjoy watching symbols evolve and are comfortable with long waits for a feature will get the most from it. The optional buy and Chance x2 modes speed things up but raise the cost per spin, so they deserve a firm budget. The free demo is a low-stakes way to learn the merge ladder.
Pros
- Merge-up clusters can chain wins into higher symbols
- Free spin cell multipliers grow up to x128
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Very high volatility means long quiet runs
- No max-win figure in our catalogue; only the studio's 5,000x claim
- Chance x2 and Buy Bonus raise the cost of play
Verdict
Lucky Ducky turns cluster pays into a nine-step ladder, with the top step feeding scatters into a bonus where cell multipliers reach x128. Its 97.25% RTP and 2.75% house edge are strong for BGaming, but very high volatility means results arrive unevenly. The studio puts the top win at 5,000x. Try the demo, and keep optional buys within a set budget.
