Grand Spinn review
Grand Spinn is NetEnt's Art Deco homage: three reels, three rows and a single line. The game keeps a win alive by nudging reels down one step at a time, multiplier wilds scale each payout, and three fixed jackpots can land at the end of a spin. It was released in 2019. The hit frequency is a low 6%, volatility is rated Very high, and there is a gap between the catalogue's 5,200x max win and the studio's 10,000x top jackpot.
Nudging a win along
Every win triggers the Nudge feature. After the win has been counted up, the game checks whether the top symbol on the first reel matches the winning symbol. If it does, that symbol nudges down by one position and the win is paid again. This repeats until a different symbol appears above, and it can then carry over to the second and third reels.
An up arrow symbol changes the sequence. If a nudge stops with an up arrow present, the reel moves to the bottom of the winning symbols stack and the nudging and payouts resume. In practice one small win can be paid several times when the same symbol keeps stacking above it.
Multiplier Wilds
The wild can appear on reels 1 to 3 and substitutes for every symbol except the up arrow and the Jackpot symbols. Its effect is on the size of a win, not on the number of them.
Multiplier ladder
One Multiplier Wild in a win doubles it. Two multiply it by 4, and three by 8. Combined with nudging, where the same win is paid repeatedly, a wild can raise the value of each repetition.
The three jackpots
When all the reels have finished nudging, Jackpot symbols may appear at the top. If each reel has a Jackpot symbol on a winning stack, the player receives the lowest Jackpot present: three Mega symbols pay the Mega Jackpot, while two Mega and one Midi pay the Midi. Three Jackpot symbols landing on the bet line without a winning combination also award the matching Jackpot.
The Mini Jackpot is a fixed 40 times the bet, the Midi pays 200 times and the Mega pays 10,000 times the bet. The catalogue lists a max win of only 5,200x, so the two figures conflict. We show both and attribute the 10,000x to the studio's rules text.
RTP, volatility and cost
The recorded RTP is 96.19%, a house edge of 3.81%. Over a long run that is about $38.10 lost per $1,000 wagered. In short sessions, 100 spins at $0.20 cost $0.76 on average, 100 spins at $1 cost $3.81, and 100 spins at $5, or $500 wagered, cost $19.05.
Volatility is Very high and only 6% of spins win, so most spins return nothing. At the catalogue's 5,200x max win, the top result would be $1,040 at a $0.20 bet, $5,200 at $1 and $26,000 at $5.
Comparable slots
Trollpot 5000 lists the same 96.19% and 5,200x, and Leprechaun Joy shows 96.19% and 5,255x. Serengeti Kings is at 96.2% and 4,900x, Bee Hive Bonanza at 96.09% and 5,000x, Rainforest Gold at 96.07% and 5,085x, and Twin Spin Megaways at 96.04% and 4,900x. All six are rated Very high.
Pros
- Nudging can pay one win several times in a row
- Multiplier Wilds double, quadruple or multiply by 8
- Three fixed jackpots at 40, 200 and 10,000 times the bet, per the studio
- A simple one-line, 3x3 design
Cons
- A 6% hit frequency means most spins do not win
- The catalogue's 5,200x max win conflicts with the studio's 10,000x Mega Jackpot
Verdict
Grand Spinn is a compact, single-line slot where nudges and multiplier wilds do the work and three jackpots wait at the end. The 96.19% RTP carries a 3.81% house edge, volatility is Very high and only 6% of spins win. It costs about $38.10 per $1,000 wagered on average, so it suits players who can handle long runs without a win.
