Fruit blox review
Fruit Blox looks like a colourful fruit machine, but it does not pay in the usual way. Red Tiger uses a system it calls Connected Ways, and some symbols arrive as oversized Mega Tiles that join forces when they touch. The studio built the free spins on the same idea: the larger the tile that triggers them, the more spins you receive. It is a 2018 game with a Very high volatility label and a top win just above 10,000x.
Connected Ways on a 6x4 board
The grid has six reels and four rows. A win needs matching symbols on at least three reels, starting from the left, and the symbols can be linked either vertically or horizontally. What counts is the link between neighbouring symbols, not only their reel.
Red Tiger's description says the layout offers over 6,000 potential ways to win. Its specification box, on the other hand, lists a maximum of 4,096 ways. The two figures are not reconciled in the source text, so treat both as the studio's statements.
Mega Tiles
Some symbols land as large tiles that cover more than one position. They also react to each other, and that reaction is the game's main source of upside in the base spins.
Mega Tile doubling
If two or more matching Mega Tiles sit next to each other, they double the win. The doubling depends on the neighbouring match, so it applies to pairs, not to a lone tile.
Free Spins tiles
The free spins trigger is a tile as well. Its size decides how many bonus rounds you get, with bigger tiles giving more. The Mega Tiles rule applies here too, so two adjacent Free Spins tiles double the number of spins.
The free spins
Before the free spins begin, the game picks a random symbol and turns it into a Wild for the whole round. Wilds substitute for all paying symbols.
The round can be retriggered, and a retrigger adds more wilds. The studio's blurb refers to free spins inside free spins and a chance of more than 10,000x the stake. The pack does not give the exact spin counts for each tile size, so we do not state them.
What the numbers say
Fruit Blox lists a single RTP, 96.06%. The house edge is 3.94%, which means about $39.40 lost per $1,000 wagered. Hit frequency is 25.24%, so about one spin in four returns something.
Over 100 spins the average cost is $0.79 at a $0.20 bet, $3.94 at $1 and $19.70 at $5. The maximum win is 10,498x the bet: $2,099.60 at $0.20, $10,498 at $1 and $52,490 at $5. With Very high volatility, a small number of results carry most of that potential.
Comparable Very high volatility games
Dragon's Fire is the closest match: it was also released in 2018 and lists 96.07% with a 10,366x maximum. Ninja Ways (96.03%, 10,467x), Five Star Power Reels (96.06%, 10,000x), Laser Fruit (96.12%, 10,485x), Gold Digger Clusterbuster (96.11%, 10,000x) and Mystic Wheel (96.16%, 10,194x) all carry the same Very high label.
Pros
- Connected Ways pay in two directions, vertical and horizontal
- Adjacent Mega Tiles double a win, and adjacent Free Spins tiles double the spins
- A random Wild symbol is chosen for the whole free spins round
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Very high volatility with a 25.24% hit frequency
- Studio text gives over 6,000 ways in one place and 4,096 in another
- Spin counts for each tile size are not stated in the source text
Verdict
Fruit Blox offers a different way to pay: connected symbols on at least three reels from the left, with Mega Tiles doubling wins. It has a 96.06% RTP, a 3.94% house edge and a Very high label, so long quiet stretches should be expected. Use the free demo to see how often tiles join up before you decide on a stake you can afford.
