Aztec Magic Bonanza review

BGaming pairs an Aztec theme with refilling reels in this 2022 release. Symbols pay by their total count anywhere on a six-by-five board, the winners vanish and the gaps refill, so one paid spin can run through several wins in a row. Two optional extras sit beside the base game: Chance x2, which raises the stake, and Buy Bonus, which sells direct entry to the free spins. The multiplier symbol, worth 2x to 100x, appears only inside that bonus.

How a spin pays

There are no lines to follow. When the reels stop, the game tallies each symbol across the whole board, and the size of that tally sets the payout. The studio calls this a group payout system. Its copy writes the grid as 5×6 in one place and 6×5 in another, so the orientation is not settled by the source; the symbol-count logic is the same either way.

Every win sets off a refill. Winning symbols disappear, the survivors slide down, and new symbols fall from the top into the empty cells. This repeats inside the same paid spin for as long as fresh winning groups appear, with no cap on the number of refills. Money from the whole chain reaches the balance only after the last refill of the base spin has finished.

Two optional add-ons

Both extras change how a base spin is priced rather than how the board plays. The material we hold lists a single RTP for the game and does not split it by setting, so do not assume either one improves the long-run return.

Chance x2

A small increase in the stake that gives the main game more chances to land four scatters and open the free spins. It is tied to Buy Bonus: if Buy Bonus is active, Chance x2 is switched off.

Buy Bonus

Skips the wait for scatters and starts the free spins for a price shown above the button. That price follows the bet, rising when the stake rises. While a bonus game is running, the button is deactivated.

Free spins and the multiplier symbol

Scatters decide the length of the round. Four anywhere on the screen award 10 free spins, five award 20 and six award 30. If three more scatters drop while the round is running, the player receives 5 extra spins.

The multiplier symbol is where the free spins differ from the base game. Each one that lands takes a random value between 2x and 100x and stays put until the current refill chain ends. At that moment every multiplier on the screen is added up and the chain's total win is multiplied by the sum. Because the symbols accumulate across a chain, long sequences matter more than single hits.

Multiplier symbol

Free spins only. A landing symbol takes a random 2x to 100x value and remains until the refill sequence is over. All visible values are then added together and applied to the whole sequence, so a few modest symbols can combine into a larger factor.

RTP, volatility and what a session costs

The catalogue records one RTP, 96.11%, which leaves a house edge of 3.89%. Over a long run that is about $38.90 lost for every $1,000 wagered. A hundred spins at $0.20 cost $0.78 on average, at $1 they cost $3.89, and at $5 (a total of $500 wagered) the figure is $19.45.

Volatility is listed as High, so results swing widely and the average cost is spread unevenly across sessions. No max win is published for this game, and the sources give no hit frequency, so the size of the top prize is unknown.

Where it sits among similar games

Several 2022 titles share its profile. Alchemist Bonanza, Pin-up Bonanza and Wild West Bonanza each list a 96% RTP and High volatility. Clover Bonanza, Lucky Farm Bonanza and Lucky Farm Bonanza Easter sit at 95.97%, also High. Aztec Magic Bonanza's 96.11% is marginally above all six, a gap of a few hundredths of a point that makes no practical difference in a short session.

Pros

  • Pay-anywhere counting with uncapped refills keeps each result easy to read
  • Free-spin multipliers from 2x to 100x are summed across a refill sequence
  • Up to 30 free spins from six scatters, with 5-spin top-ups during the round
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Multipliers exist only in the free spins, so the base game carries little of the upside
  • No max win is published, so the ceiling of the High volatility cannot be judged

Verdict

Aztec Magic Bonanza is a compact refilling-reels slot: symbols pay anywhere, chains can run on, and the bonus adds 2x to 100x multipliers that are summed per sequence. The 96.11% RTP, a 3.89% house edge, is typical for similar BGaming releases and volatility is High. Treat it as paid entertainment with an average cost of $38.90 per $1,000, and use the free demo first to see how often the refills actually build.
