Sugar Merge Up review
This 2026 BGaming slot reworks the Merge Up 2 formula in candy colours. Jelly bears peek over stacks of bubblegum, candy symbols pop with soft sounds and the grid is dotted with cell multipliers. What sets it apart is the choice of how to start: two Booster modes put multipliers on the board from the first spin, and a Buy Bonus menu offers four different ways into the free spins. The listed RTP is 97%, with a Very high volatility label.
Candy clusters and bubblegum
The studio describes candy symbols that smash together in bursts, with multipliers creeping higher on the cells as play continues. The ceiling for a cell multiplier is x128.
Bubblegum is the special symbol of the base game. A bubblegum sequence clears eight nearby symbols and boosts their multipliers, then turns into a scatter. So the sweets do double duty: they build the multiplier board and they feed the route to the bonus.
Booster modes
Both modes are optional, and both change what the grid looks like before the first symbol falls.
Random Booster
Adds multipliers of up to x128 to the grid on each spin, so the board carries multipliers before any cluster has formed.
Booster x16
Fills the grid with x16 multipliers from the very first spin.
Free spins
A scatter can land on the reels or be created when a bubblegum explodes. Three scatters give 12 free spins, four give 15, five give 20 and six or more give 30. If three or more scatters appear in one spin during the round, 5 extra spins are added.
During free spins the cells where a winning cluster formed stay marked until the end of the round. The progress of the multipliers continues until the spins run out.
Chance x2
Slightly raises the bet and improves the chance of reaching the bonus game. It is disabled when Buy Bonus or a Booster mode is active.
Buy Bonus
Three versions can be bought: a standard round of free spins, a round with a starting x2 multiplier in each cell, and a round that begins with 3 to 9 bombs on the reels. The bombs generate multipliers that carry over into the bonus.
The numbers
Sugar Merge Up has one RTP on record, 97%, which means a house edge of 3% and about $30 lost per $1,000 wagered. Over 100 spins the average cost is $0.60 at a $0.20 bet, $3 at $1 and $15 at $5.
The catalogue does not publish a max win for this game and the studio text we hold does not state one. The Very high volatility label means results can vary widely from these averages.
Games with similar numbers
The studio presents the game as an upgrade of Merge Up 2. Games with matching numbers include Magic Mummy MEGAWAYS and Train Heist Johnny Cash, both 97% and 2026, and Bonanza Billion Xtreme at 96.97% and Bonanza Billion Merge Up+ at 97.04%. From 2025, Alice WonderLuck and Doomsday Saloon are also listed at 97%. All carry a Very high label.
Pros
- Two Booster modes that put multipliers on the board from the first spin
- Free spins range from 12 to 30 depending on scatters
- 97% RTP, a 3% house edge
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Chance x2 cannot be combined with Buy Bonus or the Booster modes
- No max win published in the catalogue or the studio text
- Very high volatility; averages say little about a single session
Verdict
Sugar Merge Up takes a cluster-and-multiplier design and adds choices before the bonus: two Booster modes, Chance x2 and three kinds of Buy Bonus. The 97% RTP and Very high volatility match the similar games listed above, and the multiplier mechanics are the likely source of its variance. With a 3% house edge and no stated max win, try the free demo first and set a small bet.
