Piggy Riches review
These pigs live in a country mansion, not a farmyard. NetEnt's page dates the slot to 16 August 2010, and the design is from that era: 5 reels, 15 lines and a short rule list. Two details give it character. Every line completed with a wild pays triple, and when the free spins start, the player picks one of the scatters to decide the mix of spins and multiplier.
Layout and stakes
The reels are arranged 5x3 with 15 bet lines, and the game uses multiple coins per line. NetEnt lists a stake range of €0.15 to €300.00. It also publishes a hit frequency of 34%, so roughly one spin in three produces some return, not necessarily more than the stake.
Scatters pay on their own as well. Two or more anywhere in the main game return the paytable multiplier times the total bet, independent of the lines.
Wilds that triple
The wild stands in for anything except the scatter and is animated when it forms part of a winning line. The key rule is its multiplier: any winning line that uses a wild has its coin win multiplied by 3.
That makes the wild more than a gap filler. In the base game, a line completed through a wild is worth three times the same line made of natural symbols, which gives the base game more weight than a plain substitute would.
Choose-your-own free spins
Three or more scatters trigger the bonus. Each scatter then flips to show a different combination of free spins and multiplier, and the player clicks one to start. The exact options are listed in the in-game paytable rather than on the official page, so we cannot quote them here.
The spins use the same bet level, lines and coin value as the triggering spin. A sign on screen keeps track of the spins left and the active multiplier. Each extra scatter that lands during the round adds one more free spin.
Wild wins get stronger in this round: winning lines with wilds can be multiplied by up to 18. The choice at the start is in effect a choice of shape, between more spins and a bigger multiplier, though the page does not say whether one option is worth more than another.
What the numbers add up to
The RTP is 96.38%, which leaves the house 3.62%. Put into money, that is about $36.20 held back from every $1,000 played over the long haul. A hundred spins average $0.72 at $0.20 a spin, $3.62 at $1 and $18.10 at $5.
Volatility is Medium and the top payout is 2,400x the bet, or $480 at $0.20, $2,400 at $1 and $12,000 at $5.
Hog Heaven and other Medium NetEnt slots
Piggy Riches 3: Hog Heaven is a very different proposition by the numbers: 96.06% RTP, Very high volatility and a 10,300x cap. For something closer to the original's profile, Wolf Cub lists 96.34% with a 2,100x cap and Pyramid: Quest for Immortality 96.48% with 1,700x, both Medium. No free demo of Piggy Riches is on record.
Pros
- Every winning line with a wild pays x3 in the base game
- Player chooses the free spins and multiplier combination
- 96.38% RTP with Medium volatility and a 34% hit frequency
Cons
- 2,400x cap is modest
- Free spin options are only shown in the in-game paytable
- No free demo on record
Verdict
Piggy Riches is a compact 15-line NetEnt slot whose wilds triple every line they complete and whose free spins let you choose the balance of spins and multiplier, with wild wins worth up to x18. The 96.38% RTP and Medium volatility make for steadier play than the Hog Heaven sequel, while the 2,400x cap keeps the top end modest. Budget around the 3.62% house edge.
