Knights of Avalon review

Knights of Avalon is about numbers on the board. Red Tiger's 2023 medieval slot has a 5x4 grid with 1,024 ways to win, and its main base game feature is a fight: when six identical knights arrive on the reels, they challenge random opposing knights and turn the defeated ones into their own side. More symbols of one kind means more ways. The rules the studio provides are brief, so this review stays close to what they actually state.

Ways to win on a 5x4 grid

The layout is five reels and four rows, which gives 1,024 ways. In a ways game a win depends on how many positions a symbol occupies on consecutive reels, not on a fixed line. Any change that puts more copies of one symbol on the board therefore raises the potential payout.

The knight battle

The key base game event needs six of the same knight on the reels. Once the reels have stopped, those knights pick fights with random opposing knights. Every knight that loses is converted into the winner's legion.

The point of that conversion is the Win Ways: the extra copies of the winning knight add to the symbol count, which can lift the potential win. The studio does not give the odds of the six-knight event, or the values of the knight symbols.

Free spins and the Knights Drop

Free Spins scatters on reels one, three and five take you to the Bonus Game with 7 free spins. Each Free Spin scatter that lands during the Bonus Game adds an extra spin.

Two things change inside the round. The Knights Drop Feature occurs on the reels with a higher chance than in the main game, and any random knight symbol can carry a multiplier of up to 5x. The pack does not describe the Knights Drop in detail, so we state only that it is more likely during free spins.

What the numbers say

The RTP is 95.7%, a house edge of 4.3% and about $43 lost per $1,000 wagered. Volatility is High, and the hit frequency is 26.24%, so roughly one spin in four pays. A 100-spin session averages $0.86 at a $0.20 bet, $4.30 at $1 and $21.50 at $5.

The maximum win is 17,729x the bet: $3,545.80 at $0.20, $17,729 at $1 and $88,645 at $5. The only multiplier the studio mentions is the 5x in the free spins, so the largest results are likely tied to that round.

Games with comparable numbers

No other Knights of Avalon title is in the catalogue. Gold Mine Mistress lists 95.74% and 19,229x, Buffalo Collector 95.75% and 19,323x, Monsters Unchained 95.69% and 19,281x, and Sirens' Riches 95.73% and 22,307x. Reel Keeper Power Reels (16,060x) and Bloody Murder (16,400x) have lower ceilings.

Pros

  • 1,024 ways on a 5x4 grid
  • Knight battle converts defeated symbols and increases Win Ways
  • Free spins extend with each scatter and can carry up to 5x multipliers
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • High volatility with a 95.7% RTP and a 4.3% house edge
  • Studio rules are brief, with no symbol values or odds
  • Multipliers are described only for the free spins

Verdict

Knights of Avalon is a compact ways game with one distinctive idea, the knight battle, and a 7-spin bonus with multipliers up to 5x. A 95.7% RTP, 4.3% house edge and High volatility describe a slot with long quiet stretches and a high ceiling. Since the studio explains little, the free demo is the best way to see how often the battles happen.
