Colt Lightning review
A thunderstorm rolls across the plains, lightning strikes a wild horse, and the animal turns into a charged-up bringer of luck. That is the setup of Colt Lightning, a 2023 Play'n GO release. Its three features are linked rather than separate: an electric colt that adds symbols, a re-spin that makes the reels taller, and free spins where both can happen while the Colt symbol doubles in value.
Three linked features
The studio presents the features as pieces that combine. The first two can play out on any spin, and the third reuses both.
Colt Strike
Triggered at random. An animated electric colt charges out of the reels and adds extra Colt symbols to them. It can also happen during the Colt Re-spins, so a re-spin can gain more Colt symbols as it plays out.
Colt Re-spins
Landing a horseshoe on the third reel makes the reels expand by one row and starts a re-spin. If another horseshoe lands on reel three, it happens again, up to a maximum of three times. Each step leaves a taller grid than the one before.
Super Colt Spins
The free-spins round. Three scatters trigger it. The Colt symbol changes colour and is worth double its normal value, and both Colt Strike and Colt Re-spins can still occur. The number of free spins awarded is not given on the studio's page.
Why the Colt symbol matters
Every feature in the game either adds Colt symbols, gives them more room or raises their worth. That concentrates the design on one symbol. A spin where Colt Strike adds horses and a horseshoe then expands the reels is where the base game does its best work, and the free spins repeat that sequence with the symbol at double value.
The page stops short of the paytable, so it cannot be said here how much a Colt pays at normal or doubled value. Nor does it say how the expanded reels change the number of ways or lines. The High volatility rating suggests the value arrives in uneven bursts.
RTP settings and what they cost
Colt Lightning comes in five return settings, from 96.24% at the top through 94.27%, 91.28% and 87.25% down to 84.27%. In house-edge terms that is 3.76% at best and 15.73% at worst, and in money it means an expected $37.60 against $157.30 per $1,000 played over a very long stretch.
Take a typical $1 session of 100 spins. At the headline setting it costs $3.76 on average; at the lowest, $15.73. A player using $0.20 spins would see $0.75 against $3.15, and one using $5 spins $18.80 against $78.65. Open the game's paytable or info panel to see which setting is active.
No max win or hit frequency is published.
Firestorm and other 2023 options
Colt Lightning Firestorm followed in 2024 at 96.2% with the same High rating. Other High-volatility Play'n GO slots from 2023 sit within a few hundredths of a point: Monkey: Battle for the Scrolls at 96.21%, and Fox Mayhem and Cash - a - Cabana at 96.2%.
Who it suits
Players who enjoy features that build on each other within a single spin will find a clear logic here. The High rating calls for modest stakes and patience. The free official demo is worth a look first, both to see the re-spins expand and to learn the Colt values the studio page leaves out.
Pros
- Features interlock: added Colts, taller reels and doubled values
- Colt Re-spins can repeat up to three times
- Headline RTP of 96.24%, a 3.76% house edge

- No max win is published
Verdict
Colt Lightning ties its features together: Colt Strike adds horses, a horseshoe on reel three makes the reels taller up to three times, and the free spins double the Colt's value. The top setting is 96.24%, the volatility is High, and lower versions down to 84.27% exist. Check the active setting, try the free demo, and treat the house edge as the cost of play.
