Buildin' Bucks review
Buildin' Bucks drops fairy-tale characters onto a building site. A Brickie, a Chippie and a Welder put up and upgrade houses while a Leprechaun tries to knock them down, and pays out instant prizes when he does. Play'n GO released it in 2024 and our data rates it Medium volatility. The free spins build frames on the grid that become houses at the end, so the whole bonus works as a construction project.
The Feature Wheel
A special Scatter landing on the middle reel activates the Feature Wheel. The wheel has six possible outcomes, and they split into two groups, which gives the base game a second layer beyond matching symbols.
Instant prizes
Three of the six segments are Minor, Major and Grand instant prizes. They are paid directly, with no further play needed. The text available to us does not state their values, so check the in-game help for the amounts.
Character features
The other three segments are character features tied to building materials. The studio does not describe what each one does in the text we hold. During the free spins, the wheel changes form and can enable up to five additional free spins on top of existing wins.
Free spins: frames, upgrades and houses
Three or more Hard Hat scatters trigger the free spins. Every Hard Hat creates a frame around its own position, and the frame matches the type of scatter. Five scatters create five Golden Frames, and each extra Hard Hat adds another Golden Frame, which the studio ties to a large increase in win potential.
Frames can be upgraded. Landing another Hard Hat in the same position moves a frame from Wood to Brick, and then to Gold. The studio's description of how the scatter count sets the starting material is garbled in the text we hold, so we do not state it.
The Leprechaun's demolition
When the free spins end, every framed position turns into a house. The Leprechaun then demolishes the houses, and each one reveals an instant prize, such as a x25 multiplier. This payoff makes the framed positions the real currency of the round, and upgrading them to Gold is the aim, since the studio describes Golden Frames as the biggest source of win potential.
Five RTP versions
The headline RTP is 96.2%, a house edge of 3.8%, or $38 per $1,000 wagered on average. The other versions are 94.2% (5.8%, $58), 91.2% (8.8%, $88), 87.2% (12.8%, $128) and 84.2% (15.8%, $158).
For 100 spins at $0.20, the top version costs $0.76 and the lowest costs $3.16. At $1 the costs are $3.80 and $15.80, and at $5 they are $19 and $79. The max win is not published.
Medium volatility alternatives
Several 2024 games share the Medium rating. Joker Flip, Lady of Fortune Remastered and Mirror Joker all list 96.2%. Rich Wilde and the Pearls of Vishnu has 96.17%, Whispering Winds 96.23% and Hard Rock Pork n Roll 96.25%.
Pros
- Medium volatility, a gentler rating than the High and Very high labels
- Feature Wheel on the middle reel includes Minor, Major and Grand instant prizes
- Frames upgrade from Wood to Brick to Gold during the free spins
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Prize values and several wheel features are not described in the available text
- No max win published
- Lowest RTP version has a 15.8% house edge
Verdict
Buildin' Bucks gives a bonus a physical shape: frames appear, get upgraded, become houses, and the Leprechaun knocks them down for prizes. With a 96.2% RTP and Medium volatility, it should swing less than a High or Very high rated slot, though the max win is not published. Remember the 3.8% house edge, pick a small stake, and play the free demo to learn how the wheel and the frames connect.
