Boat Bonanza review
Out at sea, Play'n GO's 2022 fishing game keeps its base game classic and saves the catch for the bonus. Three scatters start free spins, and from then on Collector Boats float above the reels, ready to haul in any Instant Prizes underneath them. Two boats on one reel cast the net over the whole grid. A Golden Lobster worth 1,000 times the total bet is the headline prize the studio mentions.
Collecting the catch
The studio calls Boat Bonanza a classic slot with features layered on top, and the features only switch on in the free spins. Before that, the job of each spin is simply to land three scatters.
Once the round is running, Collector Boats are highlighted at random above the reels. Wherever a boat is highlighted, the Instant Prizes waiting in that reel are pulled up and added to your total.
Free Spins
Three scatters trigger the free spins. During the round, Collector Boats are randomly highlighted above the reels and collect the Instant Prizes sitting below them.
Mega Catch
If two boats are highlighted on the same reel, the net is cast across the entire grid and every Instant Prize on the reels is collected and added to the pot for that spin.
Golden Lobster
A special catch named by the studio. Landing it during the collection multiplies the total bet by 1,000, the largest single prize the game description mentions.
The cost of a cast
Five RTP settings exist: 96.21%, 94.25%, 91.25%, 87.24% and 84.22%. In house-edge terms that is 3.79% at best and 15.78% at worst. On $1,000 wagered, the averages are $37.90 and $157.80.
Sessions show the same spread. A hundred spins at $0.20 cost $0.76 on average at the top setting and $3.16 at the bottom; a hundred at $5 cost $18.95 or $78.90. The information screen inside the game shows which version you are on.
Volatility is High. No overall max win is published in our data.
Spin-offs
Three titles continue the theme: Boat Bonanza Colossal Catch (2023, 96.2%), Boat Bonanza Christmas (2024, 96.21%) and Boat Bonanza Down Under (2024, 96.25%), all rated High. Among other 2022 studio releases with similar numbers, Animal Madness and Athena Ascending list 96.2% at High volatility.
Who it suits
Everything of interest happens after three scatters, so the game asks for patience in the base game and accepts that some bonus rounds will collect little. The High rating fits that pattern. Players who enjoy collection mechanics and can wait for a feature will get the most from it; those looking for frequent base-game action probably will not.
Pros
- Clear collection mechanic during free spins
- Mega Catch collects every Instant Prize on the grid
- Golden Lobster prize worth 1,000 times the total bet
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Features only run in the free spins
- Five RTP versions down to 84.22%
- Even the headline 96.21% RTP leaves a 3.79% house edge
Verdict
Boat Bonanza is a straightforward collection game: three scatters start free spins, boats reel in Instant Prizes, and two boats on one reel trigger a full-grid Mega Catch. The headline RTP is 96.21%, versions as low as 84.22% exist and volatility is High. Check the RTP setting and try the free demo before staking anything.
