Gold Rush Frog review

A frog who is also a rock singer rides into the Wild West with a female companion, searching for treasure. That is the premise BGaming gives this 2023 release, and it comes with a long feature list: Free Spins, a Coin Respin round with three jackpot tiers, a Lightning symbol that splits cells into smaller ones, and two optional bet-side tools. The catalogue rates the volatility as Very high, so most of the interest sits in the bonus rounds rather than in everyday spins.

How the base game is built

The studio says the slot runs on its 1WAYS mechanics, which it describes as giving more ways to win than a traditional layout. It does not state a grid size, a ways count or a paytable in the text we hold, so we do not quote any. What it does list are the familiar parts: a Wild symbol, Scatters and a Free Spins round.

The Free Spins are tied to a Bonus symbol. It can land on any reel, and four, five or six of them start the round. The studio text we hold does not say how many spins each count awards, which is worth checking in the game's own rules before you play for real stakes.

Coin Respin, jackpots and the Lightning symbol

The most distinctive part of the design is a separate bonus built around Coin symbols. These drop onto the reels next to ordinary symbols, and the round begins when six or more land in one spin of the main game. From that point only Coin symbols are in play, and the reels act as a field of cells that gradually fill up.

Coin Respin

Triggered by six or more Coin symbols in a single main-game spin. It is an extra game that involves only Coins, so the question each respin asks is how many more cells get filled. It is also the only place where the jackpots can be won.

Jackpots

There are three tiers: Mini, Major and Mega. The Mini and Major are awarded when the matching Coins appear on the reels. The Mega is far harder, because every one of the 48 positions has to be filled with Coins.

Lightning symbol

It shows up only in Coin Respin and can hit a big, middle or small unit. A big unit splits into two middle ones and a middle unit into two small ones; the new units start empty and can take symbols from the next spin. If it hits a small unit, a filled big or middle unit is chosen at random and split in two, and each half keeps the win.

Chance x2 and Buy Bonus

Both of these change how you get into a bonus, and they cannot run together. Switching one on disables the other.

Chance x2

An optional extra that slightly raises the bet. In return the game gives more chances to reach Free Spins or the Coin Respin feature. It is disabled while Buy Bonus is active.

Buy Bonus

Lets you buy either a round of Free Spins or the Coin Respin feature at the price shown. The price follows the bet, so it changes if you change the stake. The bought feature starts on the next spin. It is a paid shortcut, and it is disabled while Chance x2 is on.

What the numbers say

Gold Rush Frog has a single recorded RTP of 96.79%, which leaves a house edge of 3.21%. Spread over a long run, that is about $32.10 lost for every $1,000 staked. The catalogue does not list a max win or a hit frequency for this title, so there is no top-prize figure to quote.

Short sessions look like this on average: 100 spins at $0.20 ($20 wagered) cost $0.64, 100 spins at $1 cost $3.21, and 100 spins at $5 ($500 wagered) cost $16.05. Very high volatility means the real result of any one session will differ a lot from those averages.

Nearby games with similar figures

Elvis Frog TRUEWAYS from 2022 sits at 96.7% with the same Very high rating, and Wild West TRUEWAYS from 2024 has the same 96.7% figure. Among Megaways titles from 2023, Savage Buffalo Spirit MEGAWAYS lists 96.75% and Sweet Royale MEGAWAYS 96.96%, both Very high. If you only care about the return, the differences between these are small.

Pros

  • Three jackpot tiers inside the Coin Respin round
  • Lightning symbol splits cells, adding room for more Coins
  • Both Free Spins and Coin Respin can be bought directly
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Very high volatility, so long dry stretches are normal
  • The Mega jackpot needs all 48 positions filled
  • No max win or hit frequency in our catalogue

Verdict

Gold Rush Frog is built for people who like bonus-heavy slots: Free Spins from four to six Bonus symbols, plus a Coin Respin round with Mini, Major and Mega jackpots. The RTP is 96.79% and the volatility is Very high, so the 3.21% house edge arrives in uneven swings. Treat it as paid entertainment, set a budget for the session and use the demo first to see how the Lightning symbol changes the Coin Respin.
