Free Reelin' Joker review
Here the reel count is not fixed. Every round of this 2021 Play'n GO slot starts on three reels, but a win that includes a joker can add a fourth, a fifth and a sixth, one at a time, as long as each new reel makes the win bigger. Set in a funhouse, the game introduces a roaming joker brother to the studio's Joker sisters.
Free Reelin' Fun, step by step
The expansion feature starts when a win contains at least one joker. The rules exclude what they call a mixed win; the page does not define the term, so the safe reading is that only certain joker wins qualify.
Once it starts, an extra reel is attached to the original three. If that reel raises the value of the win, another is added, up to three extra reels in total. As soon as a new reel fails to improve the win, the expansion stops and the result is paid. The next round goes back to three reels.
This makes the joker the key to the whole game. Wins without one are paid as they are, while a joker win becomes a chance to build sideways.
Two jokers, two jobs
Both joker symbols are wild and stand in for every other symbol. They differ in what else they do.
Free Reelin' Joker
The standard wild. Apart from substituting, its presence in a win is what opens the reel expansion, so each one that lands in a winning line is the start of a possible longer round.
Golden Joker
A second wild that can double a win when it is part of a winning line. It can land only once in a game round, so a doubled win cannot be stacked by a second Golden Joker in the same round.
Return settings and their cost
Five RTP versions exist: 96.17%, 94.2%, 91.18%, 87.2% and 84.21%. The house edge ranges from 3.83% on the first through 5.8%, 8.82% and 12.8% to 15.79% on the last.
On $1,000 wagered, the long-run cost is roughly $38.30 at the top setting, $58 at the second, $88.20 at the third, $128 at the fourth and $157.90 at the lowest. Short sessions show the same pattern: 100 spins at $0.20 average $0.77 or $3.16 depending on the version, at $1 they average $3.83 or $15.79, and at $5 they average $19.15 or $78.95.
Risk profile
Volatility is Medium and no max win is published. With no free spins on the official page, the variance comes from the expansion: most rounds stay on three reels, and the larger results need a joker win that keeps improving across extra reels, possibly helped by a Golden Joker's doubling.
The 1000 edition and other choices
Free Reelin' Joker 1000 came out in 2023 at 96.18% and is rated High, so the return is almost unchanged while the swings are wider. Medium-rated Play'n GO titles from 2021 with similar returns include Blazin' Bullfrog at 96.2% and Cat Wilde in the Eclipse of the Sun God at 96.23%; Wild Blood 2 from 2020 lists 96.18%.
Pros
- Reel expansion from 3 up to 6 reels adds a clear goal to joker wins
- Golden Joker can double a winning line
- Medium volatility and a free official demo
Cons
- Lower RTP versions go down to 84.21%
- No free spins and no published max win
Verdict
Free Reelin' Joker keeps one idea at its centre: a joker win can push the grid from three reels to as many as six while each new reel lifts the payout, and a Golden Joker can double a line. Medium volatility suits steady play. The top RTP is 96.17% and versions down to 84.21% exist, so check the setting and budget around a 3.83% minimum house edge.
