Fire Portals review
The mountain setting of this 2024 Pragmatic Play slot is built on a 7×7 grid of potions, rings and an hourglass. Five or more matching symbols touching each other pay, and a tumble clears each win and fills the gap. The idea that sets it apart is the Fire Portal Wild, which appears out of wins, grows when it takes part in them and stays on the board for the whole bonus once the free spins begin.
Connected wins and tumbles
A win needs five or more of the same symbol connected horizontally or vertically. Diagonal contact is not mentioned in the rules. Once a group is paid, it is removed from the grid, new symbols fall in from above, and the check runs again. The sequence stops only when a drop produces no further win.
That tumble loop is what lets a single paid spin pay several times, and it is also the engine that feeds the wild described below.
The Fire Portal Wild
This wild can show up on any spin. It substitutes for every symbol except the scatter, so it helps build groups but never counts toward the bonus.
How a portal wild appears
Any win that does not already contain one can spawn it. The wild is placed at a random position inside the area of that winning group, so its arrival depends on the win happening first.
Growing multiplier
It starts at x1. Each time it is part of a win, the multiplier goes up by x1 and the wild moves a position. If two or more are part of the same winning group they merge, and their multipliers combine into one.
Free spins
Three or more scatters on one spin start the free spins bonus, and the round begins with at least 10 free games. The material we hold does not list extra spins for more scatters.
The wilds change role here. In the bonus, portal wilds are persistent and stay on the screen until the round ends. The same applies to any that landed on the spin that triggered the bonus. With multipliers that rise each time a wild takes part in a win, persistence is the reason this round carries most of the potential.
The numbers
The only recorded RTP is 96.06%, a house edge of 3.94%. Over a long run that comes to about $39.40 lost per $1,000 wagered. In shorter terms, 100 spins at $0.20 cost $0.79 on average, 100 spins at $1 cost $3.94 and 100 spins at $5, which is $500 wagered, cost $19.70.
Volatility, max win and hit frequency are all marked not published, so how large or how rare the wins are cannot be read from the data.
Same-year company
Pragmatic Play's other 2024 releases cluster around the same return. Blazing Wilds Megaways, Ice Lobster and Yeti Quest list 96.06%, Ice Lobster rated High and Yeti Quest with a 5,000x max win. Big Bass Day at the Races and Big Bass Floats My Boat are at 96.07%, as is Big Bass Secrets of the Golden Lake with its own 5,000x ceiling.
Pros
- Portal wilds grow with every win they join and merge when they meet
- Wilds are persistent for the full free spins round
- Tumbles allow several wins from one paid spin
- Free official demo available
Cons
- No volatility, max win or hit frequency is published
- The trigger needs three scatters, and the sources list no extra spins for more
Verdict
Fire Portals is a tumbling connected-symbol slot where one mechanic, the growing portal wild, does most of the work. The 96.06% RTP means a 3.94% house edge, and without a published volatility or max win the demo is the sensible place to gauge its swings. As paid entertainment it costs about $39.40 per $1,000 wagered on average.
