Excalibur Unleashed review

Two reels carry nearly the whole idea in Excalibur Unleashed. In the base game wilds can land only on the first and fifth reels, and when they do the reel fills with a wild and a random multiplier. In the free spins those multiplier reels stop moving and grow each time they take part in a win. Pragmatic Play dressed it in a fantasy theme with animal heroes, and the studio does not publish a max win or a volatility rating.

Wilds on the outer reels

The slot runs on a 3x5 screen with 20 win lines that pay both ways. There are eleven symbols: ten regular ones and a single wild. The studio says the highest payers are a crew of animal heroes, joined by crowns and crystal balls.

In the base game the wild is limited to reels one and five, and it does not pay on its own. When it lands on either reel it expands to cover the whole reel and shows a random multiplier. A win is multiplied only by the value of the wilds taking part in it. If both outer wilds are part of the same win, their multipliers are added together and the sum is applied.

Free spins and sticky multiplier reels

The free spins change how long the wild reels last. In the round, the wild multiplier reels become sticky, and each one is increased by 1x for every win it is part of. The studio calls these reels the key to the slot's max win.

The rules state that the round has no retrigger option. The text we hold does not say how the bonus is triggered or how many spins it awards, so we cannot give those numbers.

Expanding wild reels

A wild that lands on reel one or reel five expands over the entire reel and carries a random multiplier. It applies only to wins it helps to form, and two wilds in one win have their multipliers summed.

Sticky multiplier reels

In the free spins the wild multiplier reels stay in place instead of leaving after one spin. Each reel gains 1x every time it takes part in a win, so a reel that keeps contributing grows steadily as the round goes on.

The numbers

One RTP is on record, 96.05%, which is a house edge of 3.95%. That equals about $39.50 lost per $1,000 wagered. Over 100 spins the average cost is $0.79 at a $0.20 bet, $3.95 at $1 and $19.75 at $5, which is $500 wagered.

Neither a max win nor a volatility rating is published, so no top prize in money can be given. The multiplier design means results depend heavily on the outer wilds landing at the right moment, and the demo is the best way to see how often that happens.

Games at the same RTP

Pragmatic Play lists several 2023 slots at exactly 96.05%. Blade and Fangs has a 5,000x cap and Ding Dong Christmas Bells 2,100x. Piggy Bankers, Rabbit Garden, Sky Bounty and The Knight King carry the same RTP with no max win listed, as Excalibur Unleashed does.

Pros

  • Expanding wild reels with random multipliers on reels one and five
  • Multiplier reels become sticky and grow by 1x per win in the free spins
  • Wins pay in both directions on 20 lines
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • No max win or volatility label in our catalogue
  • Free spins cannot be retriggered
  • Trigger and spin count of the bonus are not in the text we hold

Verdict

Excalibur Unleashed is a focused slot: wilds on the two outer reels carry multipliers, and the free spins make them sticky and growing. The 96.05% RTP leaves a 3.95% house edge, but there is no published max win or volatility, and the rules we hold are silent on the bonus trigger. Try the free demo, and treat any real play as paid entertainment.
