Divine Fortune review

Three jackpots and a board that fills with gold coins: that is what separates this Greek mythology slot from a standard five-reel game. NetEnt released it in January 2017 on a 5x3 grid with 20 paylines, and it layers Falling Wilds, Wild on Wild and free spins on top. The jackpot bonus has its own top tier, a growing Mega Jackpot, which sits outside the 1,000x max payout listed for the regular game.

Wilds that fall and expand

Most of the action in the base game comes from wilds that move. Two related features handle them, and both run in the main game and in the free spins.

Falling Wilds Respins

When a Falling Wild lands, it slides down one position and triggers a respin. More Falling Wilds on the grid mean more respins. These respins can also bring Free Spins scatters and Jackpot Bonus symbols, so a wild can lead into either bonus.

Wild on Wild

If an Overlay Wild lands on top of an existing wild, the wild expands to cover the whole reel and pays any wins. It then shifts down one position per respin, and each of those respins brings 2 Overlay Wilds on that reel. In the free spins, every wild becomes a Wild on Wild.

Free spins from the scatters

At least three Free Spins scatters start the round, and the number of spins depends on how many land: three give 5 spins, four give 8 and five give 12. During the round, any wild that lands spreads over its entire reel, which is the main change from the base game.

One detail on timing: if three or more scatters land in the same spin as a wild, any Falling Wilds respins it triggered are played after the free spins are over rather than being lost.

The Jackpot Bonus game

Three or more Bonus symbols in the main game, including during Falling Wilds respins, trigger this feature. It is available in the main game only. Each Bonus symbol carries a random coin value between 10x and 200x the original bet.

In the bonus, the reels spin with golden coins. Filling one full row awards the Minor Jackpot, two rows award the Major Jackpot, and covering all three rows, the entire grid, awards the Mega Jackpot, which NetEnt describes as progressively growing. Because the Mega amount grows over time, its value is not a fixed multiple of the bet.

RTP, volatility and payouts

The single listed RTP is 96.59%, a house edge of 3.41%, or about $34.10 per $1,000 wagered over a long run.

NetEnt publishes a hit frequency of 20% and a max payout of 1,000x the bet: $200 at a $0.20 stake, $1,000 at $1 and $5,000 at $5. The volatility needs a note. Our catalogue lists it as High, while the studio's page text calls it medium. The two labels disagree, so read the range of outcomes as wider than a low-volatility game but without an extreme ceiling.

In money terms, 100 spins at $0.20 cost $0.68 on average, 100 spins at $1 cost $3.41 and 100 spins at $5 cost $17.05. Actual sessions will vary widely around those figures.

The other Divine Fortune versions

Three variants exist in the catalogue with different risk profiles. Divine Fortune Gold has Low volatility, a 96.63% RTP and a 1,000x cap. Divine Fortune Megaways is rated High at 96.09% with 4,500x. Divine Fortune Black goes furthest, Very high at 96.26% with a 20,000x maximum.

Among similar games, Twin Spin and Twin Happiness list 96.55% with High volatility and a 1,000x cap, while Ghost Pirates reaches 96.88% with the same ceiling.

Who it fits

The game rewards players who like several small mechanics feeding into each other: a respin here, an expanding reel there, now and then a coin bonus. Bet ranges on the studio page run from 0.20 to 100 per spin. Those chasing very large multiples will find the regular 1,000x cap limiting and may look at the Black version instead.

Pros

  • Three jackpot tiers, with a Mega Jackpot that grows over time
  • Falling Wilds respins run in both the base game and free spins
  • Every wild expands to a full reel during free spins
  • RTP of 96.59%, a 3.41% house edge

Cons

  • Regular play caps at 1,000x the bet outside the jackpots
  • Volatility labels conflict: High in our catalogue, medium on the studio page
  • The Jackpot Bonus can only start in the main game

Verdict

Divine Fortune combines moving wilds, a free spins round where every wild covers its reel, and a coin-filling bonus with three jackpots. The RTP is 96.59%, and the 1,000x regular payout leaves the growing Mega Jackpot as the main prize. Volatility is listed as High in our data and medium by the studio. Play it with a set budget and see the 3.41% house edge as the cost of entertainment.
