Road 2 Riches review

BGaming built this 2021 release around Route 66, the old highway that ran towards Chicago and drew travellers chasing fortune. The road-trip idea is mostly a backdrop. What sets the slot apart is the way its wilds work: two kinds of them, a random wild drop in the base game, and free spins where wilds stick and can fill whole reels to unlock one of three jackpot levels.

Two kinds of wild

The game pays along winning lines, and wilds stand in for every symbol except the Bonus symbol. BGaming's page does not state how many lines there are, so we leave that number out.

The wild comes in two forms. The eagle wild can show up anywhere: in normal spins, in the free spins and during the Mystery Wild feature. The second form, a girl character, exists only in the free spins and is created when Bonus symbols transform. That split matters, because only the second form becomes sticky.

Mystery Wild

A random event in the main game. When it starts, wild symbols drawn as burning balls drop onto the reels and lock in place for the duration of the feature. Extra fixed wilds give a base spin more ways to complete a line. The studio does not say how often it fires or how many wilds can fall.

Buy Bonus

The free spins can be bought directly at the price printed on the Buy Bonus button. That price follows the stake: change the bet and the cost moves with it. Buying skips the wait for the trigger, but it costs a multiple of a normal spin, so it speeds up spending as well.

Free spins: Bonus symbols, sticky wilds and jackpots

Three Bonus symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4 open the round with 8 free spins. The trigger can be extended on the spot: if Bonus symbols fill an entire reel, 4 more spins are added. A second full reel adds 2 more, and a third adds 1, so three full reels would add seven spins on top of the base eight.

Inside the round, the girl wilds turn sticky and stay put until the last free spin. Each one that lands narrows the gap to a full reel of wilds, and full reels are what the jackpots are tied to. One of reels 2, 3 or 4 covered in wilds pays the Mini Jackpot. Two such reels pay the Major, and all three pay the Mega. The page does not list jackpot values, so we cannot say what each tier is worth.

Return, cost and ceiling

Our catalogue has one RTP for Road 2 Riches: 96.27%. That leaves a house edge of 3.73%, or about $37.30 for every $1,000 played through over a long stretch. For a hundred spins at a $0.20 stake, $20 in total, the average cost is $0.75. At $1 a spin it is $3.73, and at $5 a spin, $500 wagered, it is $18.65. Single sessions land far from these averages in both directions.

Volatility is listed as High. The catalogue holds no max win, but BGaming's page says the game can pay up to 2,000 times the stake; treat that as the studio's own figure. With the jackpots and sticky wilds concentrated in the bonus, expect a lot of the return to arrive in that round.

The festive edition and other options

Road 2 Riches X-mas, also from 2021, is the only other entry in the franchise. It carries a 96.24% RTP with the same High label.

Among BGaming titles with comparable numbers, Lucky Dama Muerta from 2021 lists 96.16% and Dragon's Gold 100 from that year lists 96.07%, both High. From 2022, Aztec Magic Bonanza sits at 96.11% and Alchemist Bonanza at 96%. None of them beats the 96.27% here.

Who should take the trip

This is a slot for players who accept long quiet stretches in exchange for a bonus with layered goals: extra spins, sticky wilds, then jackpot tiers. A small stake and a fixed budget suit the High rating. Anyone who prefers steady small wins in the base game may find too much depends on one round. The free demo shows how often the Mystery Wild and the free spins appear before money is involved.

Pros

  • Sticky wilds in the free spins build towards three jackpot tiers
  • Filling reels with Bonus symbols adds up to seven spins to the opening 8
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • Jackpot values and the number of lines are not published
  • The max win comes only from studio copy, not from our catalogue

Verdict

Road 2 Riches keeps the base game simple and saves its ideas for the free spins, where sticky wilds can fill reels 2, 3 and 4 and unlock the Mini, Major and Mega jackpots. The 96.27% RTP is reasonable, and the High volatility means results arrive unevenly. Set a budget, remember the 3.73% house edge, and use the free demo to judge the rhythm first.
