Gemza review
A dragon guarding a dwarven gem hoard is the backdrop to Gemza, a 2023 BGaming release. The mechanics are the pay-anywhere, refilling kind, but with one structural change: a separate horizontal reel sits beneath the 5x5 grid and adds five more symbols to every spin. Multiplier symbols worth x2 to x500 can land in both the base game and the bonus, and in the free spins they build into one shared multiplier.
Grid, extra reel and refills
The main field is five columns by five rows. Instead of lines or ways, the game counts how many of each symbol are on screen at the end of a spin, and that total sets the win. Gemstones of lower and higher value fill the grid.
Below it runs the extra reel. On every spin it shows five additional symbols, and these count toward the same totals, so they can complete a win that the main field alone would miss or raise one that already exists.
After a win, every winning symbol is removed and the gaps fill from above. The game keeps doing this for as long as new wins appear, with no fixed limit, and only credits the total once the last refill has settled.
Multipliers and the bonus
The studio's story frames the free spins as a search for four old chests full of diamonds, unlocked with key multipliers. In rule terms, the round is a scatter-triggered set of spins in which multipliers carry over.
The key difference between the two modes is memory. In the base game a multiplier only affects the sequence it lands in and is then gone. In the bonus, every multiplier that contributes to a win stays in the running total for the rest of the round, so a strong start can lift every win that follows.
Multiplier symbols
Values from x2 to x500 can land in any mode. In the base game a multiplier stays on screen until the refill sequence ends, then all values present are added together and applied to the total win of that sequence. Without a win in the sequence, a multiplier does nothing.
Free Spins
Four or more scatters anywhere award 15 free spins. Each multiplier that drops on a winning spin is added to a single running multiplier, which then applies to every later winning spin in the round. Three or more scatters during the bonus add 5 more spins, extending the time that running total has to work.
Chance x2 and Buy Bonus
Two optional purchases. Chance x2 adds a little to each bet in return for more chances to reach the free spins. Buy Bonus starts the round outright for a price that follows the bet size. Only one of the two can be active at a time.
Reading the numbers
The RTP is 97.17%, so the house edge is 2.83%. Across a long run, that is close to $28.30 per $1,000 staked. Average costs for 100 spins come to $0.57 at $0.20, $2.83 at $1 and $14.15 at $5.
Very high volatility is the other half of the picture. A shared multiplier that grows through the bonus concentrates much of the return in a small share of rounds, so most sessions will land well below or well above the averages. Our catalogue lists no max win; the studio's FAQ gives 5,000x the stake. At a $0.20 stake that would be $1,000, and at $1 it would be $5,000.

Who it is for
Gemza suits players who like pay-anywhere grids and can live with quiet spells while waiting for a bonus that carries most of the upside. The extra reel gives the base game a little more to watch. The free demo is the cheapest way to see how often the multipliers turn up.
Pros
- 97.17% RTP, a 2.83% house edge
- Extra reel adds five symbols to every spin
- Free spins multipliers combine into one running total
- Free official demo available
Cons
- Very high volatility, so long dry stretches are normal
- Max win comes only from the studio FAQ, not our catalogue
- Optional buys raise the cost per spin
Verdict
Gemza adds a fifth-symbol extra reel to a familiar pay-anywhere grid and lets free spin multipliers pile into one running total. The 97.17% RTP and 2.83% house edge are attractive, but very high volatility makes outcomes uneven, and the studio's stated ceiling is 5,000x. Learn it on the demo, and set a budget before using any optional buy.
