Dragon Hero review

Dragons do the work in Dragon Hero. A dragon symbol can place up to three wilds at random positions on the board, and in the free spins the dragons are held in place so that they keep handing out wilds on every spin. Pragmatic Play released the slot in 2022 on 5x4 reels. Its RTP is exactly 96%, which makes the house edge a round 4%, and the studio does not publish a max win or a volatility rating.

Symbols, wilds and the base game

The slot has 14 symbols according to the official rules: eleven regular ones, one scatter and two wilds. The studio says the regular set includes fish and toads, joined by the mythical dragons that carry the main feature. Matching combinations across the 5x4 reels pay a win.

The two wilds are a normal wild and a Super Wild, and the Super Wild can have levels one, two or three. The rules text we hold does not explain what the levels change, so we do not guess. The win system is also not specified in the rules summary, so we give neither a payline count nor a ways figure.

The dragon feature

In the studio's description, each dragon symbol can award up to three wilds placed at random across the game board. That is the headline feature of the base game.

Free spins, with a wheel first

The scatter may appear on all reels and does not pay. Three scatters on a base spin trigger the free game, and the rules add that scatters landing during the free game do not trigger more free spins by themselves. The round awards at least six spins. Before the bonus starts there are spinning wheels that can add more, though the text we hold does not list the wheel's outcomes.

Inside the round, the dragon symbols are held in place and distribute their wilds continually for every spin. In the base game, by comparison, the studio describes the wilds as being awarded by the dragon symbol when it lands.

Held dragons

In the free spins each dragon stays on the reels and keeps placing wilds on every spin. The studio points to this repeated wild supply as the source of the round's bigger win potential.

Bonus buy

Our catalogue records a bonus buy for this game. The rules mention a buy feature but the price could not be read from the text we hold, so we give none.

What the numbers say

Dragon Hero has one RTP on record, 96%, so the house edge is 4%. On average that is $40 lost for every $1,000 wagered. Across 100 spins, the average cost is $0.80 at a $0.20 bet, $4 at $1 and $20 at $5, which is $500 wagered.

There is no max win in the catalogue, so a top prize in money cannot be given for any bet. Without a volatility label either, the free demo is the way to gauge how often the dragons trigger.

Where it sits

Book of Tut Megaways and Chase for Glory both list the same 96% RTP, with caps of 10,000x and 7,887x. Muertos Multiplier Megaways (96.03%, 10,000x), Big Bass - Keeping it Reel (96.07%, 10,000x), 8 Golden Dragon Challenge (96.02%, 8,800x) and Demon Pots (96.01%, 6,000x) are all close on RTP and carry published caps, which Dragon Hero lacks.

Pros

  • Each dragon can place up to three wilds at random
  • Dragons are held in place during the free spins and keep adding wilds
  • A wheel before the bonus can add more spins
  • Free official demo available

Cons

  • At 96% the RTP is at the bottom of the range among the similar games listed, a 4% house edge
  • No max win or volatility label in our catalogue
  • The levels of the Super Wild and the bonus buy price are not in the text we hold

Verdict

Dragon Hero concentrates everything on one idea: dragons that scatter wilds, then stay put in the free spins and keep doing it. The 96% RTP means a 4% house edge, and the catalogue offers neither a max win nor a volatility label. With the win system also unspecified, start with the free demo, and play only as paid entertainment.
