Lucky Twins Wilds review

Here a meter does the work that scatters do in most slots. Microgaming's follow-up to Lucky Twins, released on 7 October 2021, counts every symbol cleared by a winning cluster on its 6x6 grid. Checkpoints along the way drop extra wilds, and a full meter opens 10 free spins with a climbing multiplier. Medium volatility and a 96.54% RTP place it in the middle ground between steady and swingy.

Clusters on a square board

Wins come from clusters: five or more matching symbols in adjacent positions. When a cluster pays, its symbols explode and new ones drop from above to fill the space, and the process repeats until no new cluster forms.

The visuals stay with East Asian good-luck motifs given a modern finish. Low-value symbols are J, Q, K and A, while the premiums are coin pouches, firecracker ornaments and lucky cats, all set against a deep green backdrop. The meter sits to the left of the grid with the twins above it.

Features that feed the meter

Three mechanics run in the base game. The wilds help clusters form, the meter rewards long chains, and the buy option skips the wait altogether.

Lucky Wilds

Shown as scrolls marked Wild, these can appear at random during the base game. Each one covers a 1x3 space and substitutes for all other symbols, which makes it easier for a cluster of five or more to connect.

Lucky Meter

Every symbol removed by a winning cluster is added to the meter. At 15, 30 and 45 symbols, 3 wilds are placed in random positions on the board. At 60 symbols the free spins start. The meter is not persistent: once no more clusters are in view, it resets for the next spin.

Buy Free Spins

A button in the top right corner buys the bonus mode directly for 40x the stake. It is a paid entry to the same 10 free spins and carries the same house edge as the rest of the game.

Ten free spins and a climbing multiplier

A full meter awards 10 free spins. Each spin starts with a multiplier of 1x. Every tumble in the sequence moves it one step along the ladder: 2x, then 3x, 4x, 5x and finally 10x. When the cascades end, the multiplier reached applies to that spin's win, then drops back to 1x for the next spin.

The practical effect is that long chains are worth much more than short ones. A spin that tumbles five times reaches the 10x step, while a single cluster pays at 1x.

Returns, ranges and the max win

The RTP is 96.54% with no alternative versions in our data, giving a house edge of 3.46%: about $34.60 per $1,000 wagered over a long run. On average, 100 spins at $0.20 cost $0.69, at $1 they cost $3.46 and at $5 they cost $17.30.

The studio lists bets from 0.1 to 20 per spin and a max win of 5,044x the stake, which is $5,044 at a $1 bet. Our catalogue records the ceiling as 100,880x, but that figure matches the maximum exposure of $100,880 on the studio page, so we rely on the 5,044x multiplier.

Related games

The original Lucky Twins lists a 96.94% RTP with Low volatility. Two spin-offs share this game's base: Lucky Twins Wilds Jackpots at 96.1% with Medium volatility, and Lucky Twins Wilds Link and Merge at 96.16% with a Very high rating. Among similar games, Lucky Koi sits at 96.47% and Ice Pop Party at 96.55%, both Medium.

Who it suits

Players who enjoy watching a board cascade will get the most out of it, because nearly every feature depends on chains: the meter fills only while clusters keep forming, and the free spin multiplier climbs only with consecutive tumbles. Medium volatility means results should be less extreme than in a high-volatility title, yet the 10 free spins still hold most of the upside. The 40x buy price is a large single outlay compared with a normal spin, so it is worth comparing with the budget before pressing the button.

Pros

  • Lucky Meter adds wilds at 15, 30 and 45 symbols before opening free spins
  • Free spin multiplier climbs to 10x with each tumble
  • RTP of 96.54%, a 3.46% house edge
  • Medium volatility for balanced sessions

Cons

  • The meter resets after every spin, so progress never carries over
  • The multiplier returns to 1x at the start of each free spin
  • The catalogue max win figure conflicts with the studio's 5,044x

Verdict

Lucky Twins Wilds swaps scatters for a meter that turns long cluster chains into wilds and, at 60 symbols, 10 free spins with a multiplier that climbs to 10x. The RTP is 96.54%, and Medium volatility keeps the swings moderate. The studio's stated top is 5,044x. A sensible pick for players who like tumbling grids, as long as the 3.46% house edge is factored into the budget.
